Of course, people are theorizing this means a new UHD release of the movie is just around the corner (like the 2018 Ghostbusters discs getting reduced to $7.99 last Black Friday).

Maybe, maybe not. Either way it's $10. Really not a huge investment to lose there! 8)

Honestly I thought there was going to be a bigger "upgrade" to the new 4K of GHOSTBUSTERS. The Dolby Vision grading is a little more effective but it's a really small difference -- it's basically the same transfer -- that's going to be negligible for many.

Oh, I agree. I spent $20 for the nice steelbook packaging last summer, and was very satisfied with how it looked, so the regular release for half-that is a no-brainer. :)

It's supposed to be $10? Because when click on it, it says $24.15.

Am I doing something wrong (like usual)?

Indeed, but there should be another run on these at some point in the near future. You want this -- it has that Laurent Bouzereau interview with Spielberg. :D

I missed the sale price, too! But thank you for the head's up all the same, Andy! I'll try to be quicker on the draw next time. It sounds like a great package.

It really is outstanding, one of the best packages out there. I will send out another alarm if it gets reduced again!

We watched this with Theo for the first time. He's so into STAR WARS he was initially saying he didn't want to see it, but once we turned it on and I asked him if I should turn it off, he was "oh no, I like this movie".

The different cuts of this film are interesting in so far as to how Spielberg structures the "domestic freakout scenes". The Special Edition adds the scene that's probably hardest to watch in the film -- with Dreyfuss and Teri Garr really going at it after she finds him in the shower. It also removes the scenes where Roy rips up the yard, which is the most outrageous display of his declining behavior (it's also funny).

The Director's Cut plays ALL of these scenes, which I think, honestly, is a little overkill. I think we get the point by the time he's ripping up the yard, while the shower scene almost comes off as difficult to watch with kids (we had to tell Theo "is this proper behavior?" while it was going on lol). Take out the subsequent yard sequence as the Special Edition does and it really has a "tough edge" which was probably Spielberg's point, but I wonder if it was a bit too strong. You could argue the original 1977 theatrical cut played best of all of these (in this regard), which didn't have the shower scene.

The Special Edition Mothership ending, as we know, isn't needed, though I showed it to Theo after the movie was over, and he had seen the movie for the first time...the other Special Edition scenes and alterations are mostly good ones (moving around Lacombe's scenes a little, adding the Cotapaxi desert scene, and of course the original Williams end title, which I hoped would be attached to the Director's Cut but wasn't). The Director's Cut retains most of the SE changes just minus the Mothership ending, and with all the "domestic situation" scenes retained.

What an amazing film though still. One of the great sci-fi fantasy films of all-time, brilliantly scored, unforgettably designed, superbly performed on top of it.

It's a good price. Unlike Amazon UK. who are charging £25.70. I prefer not to deal with the third party sellers in the UK. Sometimes, the shipping is more than the item you paying for.
London. Greatest City in the world.
