I think that might be the idea. Hopefully it's not just a rumor!

Expect plenty of "You're racist for killing a movie with a Latinx [ugh] lead!" articles in the following weeks.AndyDursin wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 2:20 pm I think that might be the idea. Hopefully it's not just a rumor!

The approval of the hardcore comic book fan is far stronger than any complaints from the woke social media crowd -- especially at the box-office. Discovery's execs seem like they are already smart enough to realize this.

I just hope they stick to their guns, and don't knuckle under to "Twitter Outrage". Haven't we had ENOUGH of this sh!t by now? Yay, we're progressive! We're inclusive! Gay people exist! now, can we get back to just telling stories instead of spraining our wrists patting ourselves on the back over how "enlightened" we've become?AndyDursin wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 2:39 pm The approval of the hardcore comic book fan is far stronger than any complaints from the woke social media crowd -- especially at the box-office. There was also an element of surprise with Alien. Audiences didn't expect a female hero at the end necessarily so that factored in. Nobody spelled that out before the movie opened. Tom Skerritt got top billing and when he died I think the lions share of people were surprised on first view.
Nowadays they just straight out tell you "the girls the hero" in Prey so there is not one surprise at all. Anyone remember when the female hero got killed and a male finished the movie off? We've had plenty of the reverse and very little of the former.

Plus, Sigourney was a GENUINE unknown at the time, which added to the surprise (I think her only movie role prior to that was a wordless cameo as Woody Allen's date at the end of Annie Hall). Be like if the last actor standing in Predator was Shane Black.AndyDursin wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 5:39 pm There was also an element of surprise with Alien. If that movie were made today, not only would Ripley be a black lesbian with Asperger syndrome, but Fox would have been stroking themselves over how "brave" and "ground-breaking" the casting was before a frame of the movie was actually shot.

Cowardly studios hiding behind a wall of politically-correct buzzwords to deflect honest criticism of the actual storytelling in their movies and shows remind me of this...
