Liam Neeson in Neil Jordan's MARLOWE

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

25 years ago this could have been legitimately good -- now, it's got a higher potential to simply be so-bad-its-good, especially with a cast of plastic mostly involved.

Also, instead of George Fenton scoring we have Soderbergh acolyte David Holmes

I dunno...with Jordan directing, it's gotta be a smidge more classy than Neeson's usual January/February beat 'em ups...right?

Anyways, Neeson flicks are some of the few movies that my dad will automatically say "yes" to seeing in a theater, so I have an affection for them for that reason alone. :)

I dunno, looks like a lot of past-their-primers there (Lange and Kruger as female leads? Is this 25 years ago?) including Jordan himself who's last notable film was...in which decade exactly!?? I'm looking at his filmography and can't even remember what these films are that he's made since the '90s.

Obviously the idea of it is great -- but looks like the reaction was already mixed at best as it was screened last fall in an effort to find a buyer.

You can also tell from the amount of Executive Producers it's a mostly foreign-funded project that Variety notes gives it a disjointed feel that doesn't feel authentic.

They reviewed it in September and panned it, calling it "The Big Snooze" with a lot of "miscast actors":

I doubt Fenton has been on speaking terms with Jordan since the shameful rejection of Fenton’s music for Interview with the Vampire.
