HERE - Zemeckis, Deaged Hanks, Single Room Shot for 2 Hours

Zemeckis with yet another gimmick movie, reuniting this time with his Forrest Gump cast and writers. Can't be any worse than every movie he's made since the 90s, right?!?

To be fair...hasn't he been doing "gimmick" movies since at least Who Framed Roger Rabbit? He's always been on the cutting edge of tech since the late 80s.

And I don't recall anything especially gimmicky about movies like Flight or Allied.

His issue has always been the tech has been the driving element of what he's been making for many years. Since Roger Rabbit its like hes been searching for that next big thing. Death Becomes Her was more an ILM test reel than anyyhing else. Beowulf, Polar Express and Mars Needs Moms need no introduction. The thing with Gordon Levitt that nobody watched in 3D. Etc

When he has made "real" movies with actual actors they've been pretty awful. Crash was fine, I didn't love it though. I hated Allied and the Carrell thing.

This looks again like a struggling director who hasn't had a hit in eons grasping at a gimmick to make it. It's been a while since he's made anything relevant.

Zemeckis continues his long downward trajectory, unsurprisingly:

Ninety-four minutes in, the director finally opts to unfreeze his camera, swiveling around to observe a key moment between two characters. Had Zemeckis built “Here” as a museum installation instead of a film, the fixed POV probably would have made sense. But we’ve come to be moved, and for that to work, the camera should too.
