40 years later this is going to happen. Why did it take so long?
I can't believe I'm the only one who is tired of this way too late/after the fact sequlitis that has been going on. I might hate it even more than prequlitis and that's saying something.

This stat right here tells you how poorly most movies are actually doing at the box-office in 2025...
The thing I always found amusing was that, in the early trailers, John Candy and Rick Moranis were billed last with "Special Appearances By".
By the time the movie came out, the billing had changed and they were now major leads right after Mel -- as if the film desperately needed their names to sell it.
I was always disappointed with SPACEBALLS. Watched it again with Theo and...yeah...it just wasn't that funny. Too little too late a decade after STAR WARS. Weak casting in Bill Pullman and Daphne Zuniga. Waste of John Candy and Rick Moranis' time too. The John Hurt bit at the end with the Looney Tunes-singing Alien was amusing but that was kind of it (outside John Morris' cheery score). The film earned $38.1 million at the box office ($105 million in today’s dollars) and wasn’t exactly a hit and earned mixed critical reviews.

I found it completely unfunny -- until the last 15 or so minutes. Then I was suddenly laughing consistently -- the "cleaning lady" spaceship, the Planet of the Apes reference, John Hurt, etc.AndyDursin wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:04 pm I was always disappointed with SPACEBALLS. I laughed at the "you've captured their stunt doubles!" moment and the moment where they rent the movie and have the "What am I looking at?" "Now." moment. But it was behind the times when it came out and largely fell flat. No one ever clamored for a follow-up to this.
Re: Spaceballs 2
The only moments in the film I genuinely laughed at were the "ludicrous speed" sequence ("What have I doooone?"), the playing with action figures scene, and the "your schwartz is as big as mine" bit. All of the funny scenes for me had Rick Moranis in them (drinking coffee through his voice filter, running into the camera with that ridiculously oversized helmet, etc.). The rest of the film is a total dud...which does not bode well for a sequel. Brooks' late period stuff (arguably after Men in Tights) is really unfunny to me.Paul MacLean wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 6:39 pmI found it completely unfunny -- until the last 15 or so minutes.
