I'm not getting Blu-Ray until I can get a good player that doesn't need to get "upgraded" every three months for under $200 and - more importantly -- I can pick up new titles for well under $20 opening week with all of the extra features from the previous DVD editions. Thirty freaking dollars for a bare-bones Robocop?! :?

A large part of my DVD collection is R2. Unless it plays them I can't see myself getting that player.
It DOES play all regions.
Is that straight out of the box or through a hack code?

Changing BD regions is out of the box and only needs to be done with a few clicks on the remote. Changing standard DVD regions is a one-time process and you need to burn a CDR to do it, but it's not hard.
