Tony Scott frustrates me. He's capable of some very strong movies (Crimson Tide, True Romance) and some solid, slick no-brainers (the great guilty pleasure The Last Boy Scout), but his already-overcooked, Miller Beer commercial visual style went completely bugshite crazy with Man On Fire and the phenominally irritating Domino (as grating and obnoxious and unpleasant a movie experience as Speed Racer or Van Helsing). Deja Vu was actually blissfully restrained by his recent standards (plus I have a weakness for time travel stories involving men going back in time to save a woman...Time After Time, the first Terminator, Twelve Monkeys, ect.), but Pelham looks typically "action-y". It's not enough for the money car to just flip over...it's gotta barell-roll about five times and fall over a bridge into oncoming traffic. I'll give it a shot on DVD, but I seriously doubt it'll match the tension and jaded New Yawk humor that peppered the original ("Come on, you Dodos, over here...").
