Harry Knowles called the trailer "familiar." That's EXACTLY how I felt while watching it!

That trailer ought to be a lesson in how NOT to market a film....completely devoid of any suspense, with hideous music and FAR too many details given away (for anyone who didn't see the original)...but, at least, on the other hand it gives me a reason not to spend $10 on a story I've already seen a dozen times. Seriously, what a crushing disappointment in terms of a trailer. That ad gives away nearly EVERY "money" shot from the film!

And more importantly, I can't believe how similar it looks to the original. I mean, the scene with the caretaker who kills herself...to the scene of Damien not going in the church...to Julia Stiles falling...IT LOOKS LIKE THE EXACT SAME MOVIE DOWN TO THE SAME CAMERA ANGLES...just with Liev Schrieber and Julia Stiles in place of Gregory Peck and Lee Remick. (That's not a positive trade-off, either!). Heck they're even wearing the same clothes!

It also seems to confirm what you said, Roman, that the kid is "aware" that he's the anti-christ...something that also strips any ambiguity out of the original story and makes him, if anything, just another evil child moppet. In the original, he's creepy, in part because he rarely says anything! From what little I've seen this kid IS evil right from the start (leaving no doubt at all or any shards of sympathy) and that takes away a strong component of the original film.

Not sure what's up with the EYES WIDE SHUT-looking jackals but I hope the movie brings more to the table than the shot-for-shot appearance the trailer gives away. Yikes!

I told you it is almost an 1:1 remake... still, they at least didnt give away the death scenes, except the caretaker...

there are still some nice shots left! :-)

I liked the trailer however... ok the music sucks, but overall I thought it is quite effective...

hm, I think the kid doesn't say anything at all in the movie either... but im not sure about that.. he just look screepy all the time... oh no, he says something before stiles falls :-)

See that's what I'm talking about! Why does the kid talk at all?? I still find it funny Julia Stiles is playing mom, and this child seems older than the one in the old movie, too.

Let's just hope it fares better than the last time someone did a shot-for-shot horror remake of a movie everyone knows already....PSYCHO, anyone??

trust me, it is better than the PSYCHO remake...

though everytime I see the shower murder on tv in the remake I laugh my butt off when the sheep appears... what's that supposed to mean? meeeeeeh????

hilarious... also isn't there a latex sm-girl cut in when Macy gets stabbed?

well, I guess this shows only what Gus Van Sant really thought about the project...

I wonder why the hell (pun very intended) they didn't use some of Goldsmith's score. The only music I recognized at all was Debney's END OF DAYS, which, yes, is creepy, but the producers had one of the greatest horror scores ever written at their disposal and instead they just slap a bunch of generic music together? Bah.

C'mon.

Is there really any doubt in anyone's mind that this thing is going to be an atrocious abomination in every sense of the phrase?

I knew we were in trouble when Lee Remick's part went to the incomparable....Julia Stiles.

Making a remake of a film everyone knows is one thing. Making a SHOT FOR SHOT REMAKE of a film still in circulation (so to speak) is absolutely, positively head-scratching. It'd be like making THE EXORCIST with Julia Roberts in the Ellen Burstyn role (I shudder at the thought!)....just doesn't make much sense.

One thing is that it's going to be VERY interesting to see what kind of box-office this movie does, and how much you can test the market for a straight, vanilla remake of a most people remember or at least have seen on TV over the years.

The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you!!

It's also one thing to have an interesting director like Gus Van Sant on board to make the shot-for-shot remake, rather than a hack like John Moore.

I agree with that...and look how well Van Sant did with that movie, too  I was no fan of BEHIND ENEMY LINES and that FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX remake was a waste of time as well.

I actually caught up with that PSYCHO remake not that long ago. I think it's pretty clear that was the movie that pushed Vince Vaughn completely into comedy. You cannot take him seriously in that role whatsoever! What a disaster...

and come on guys... the movie is done very well... whether it is necessary is one thing, but still..it is quite enjoyable and would be even pretty cool if you daont know the original!

The new TV spot they showed on Fox during 24 was much better -- I still don't get why they show Julia Stiles' death in every trailer (and is Liev Schrieber even in it? I've yet to see any footage of him!), but hey, whatever works, right?

they didn't show Julia Stiles' Death... or what do you think hwo she bites it? It is different from the original and a pretty long scene, so I doubt you can show it at all in the trailers... it's a sloooooow death :-)))

Dream sequence then? Oh, ok, I remember now.....:)

You know it's a straight remake when the only writing credit remains "Written by David Seltzer." :!:
