I guess they'd find out just how much money they really WOULD make from going direct-to-consumer if this ever happened...but I'm not surprised they're going to hang on to it, no matter how delayed (this was supposed to be released in 2019!) the movie ends up.
When the danger is past and theaters are open again, they're gonna need a HUGE draw to entice audiences back, and stuff like WW and Black Widow are gonna be what audiences crave.
I think theaters are going to have a difficult time of it even when they do reopen.
At any rate WB has moved WW to August 14th. That may be cautious optimism, and a tentative placeholder, because I can see a way that life goes on but people actively avoid mass gatherings which theaters could still be a part of.
And only in Hollywood could you have a film set in 1984 and the director insists on having the President be a character who doesn't look like the actual President!
And naturally having WW go up against a more relevant villain in 1984 like say......Russia? That's a no-no too.

I get the distinct impression this movie might be fun but we've seen so much of it at this point and it just kind of looks "meh" from a number of angles.
As we first told you two days ago, Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman 1984 is vacating its October 2 release date, with the Patty Jenkins-directed movie heading to Christmas. Warners is keeping the Legendary sci-fi movie Dune on the calendar for a December 18 release, and believes the holiday marketplace is big enough for two mega-tentpoles.
The decision by the studio has been in the cards for some time, and exhibition knew this was coming. Also fueling the move is the fact we’re dealing with 30% of the nation’s exhibition marketplace — including Los Angeles, New York City, Miami and San Francisco — still closed. Plus, the Gal Gadot-starring DC sequel came on tracking yesterday like gangbusters; there’s a lot of want-to-see-here, and the year-end holiday marketplace after Top Gun: Maverick departed was in need of a leading marquee tentpole, with Aquaman doing exceptionally well two years ago with its December 7 release, with $335 million domestic and $1.1 billion worldwide.
In addition, if WW84 had stuck on its October release date, it would collide with Warner Bros’ Tenet, which will get an extra boost when NYC and LA theaters reopen; some hope and project that will happen around early October.

It's not going to change either. Sony execs said this last week it'd be foolish to waste a $200 million movie in a compromised marketplace.
Until a movie shows a roadmap to profitability or the studios are OK with foreign cash dominating the grosses (people seem to forget they don't get the same cut internationally as they do here much of the time), I think all we will see is the occasional movie the studios really don't care about trickling out here and there.
They don't own the theaters so they don't need to support the pipeline. They can either stockpile the product for when masks aren't required (my guess) or put it up on their streaming service.

Big studios are lucky they have their libraries of old catalog titles which still generate revenue.
Who knows, maybe the paucity of new movies will get people to start watching older (and better) films!

Just a random goofy thought. Wouldn't it have been great if for a trailer, they reshot the "Apple 1984" commercial and substituted Gadot as WW rushing in at the end and had the tagline, "See how 'Wonder Woman 1984' won't be like '1984'"?
