"Witches” moves from October 9, 2020 to no date at all.

“Godzilla vs Kong” moves from November 20, 2020 to May 21, 2021.

“Tom & Jerry” moves from December 23, 2020 to March 3, 2021.

New Line will release an untitled horror movie on June 6, 2021.

The untitled “Matrix” movie moves from May 21, 2021 to April 4, 2022.

It will be almost a year for me in a couple of weeks. There wasn't much I wanted to see in a theater last year.

It's rare I go three WEEKS without seeing something in a theater, so this forced separation from the theater experience for a full fourth of a year is KILLING me. I even miss bland, generic January movies like The Rhythm Section and Underwater. At least those seemed bigger and more impressive on a theater screen and with my theater's luxe reclining seats.

I just miss my ROUTINE.

We will be lucky if there's much to see this year. I can see a couple of movies opening and then not doing well, then wiping out the rest of the year with titles that HAD been announced.

At that point, there will almost certainly almost be some theaters that won't ever REopen.

Hollywood is in a tight spot because they almost HAVE to throw some movies out there, even if they end up underperforming, or else there will be no reason for people to go back. And the longer they stay shut, the more conditioned people will be to stay home, even when it's "all clear" or reasonably close.

At the same time they hate to throw money away, so they have reason to wait until the "maximum worldwide market reach" is there to make as much coin as possible. That's why I could see Bond and other big-ticket titles following the lead of most of Warner's slate and going into next year...and beyond.

The media has also scared so much of the world's populace that I don't ever see some "floodgates" of audiences flocking back to movie theaters no matter how relatively safe it probably is.

I cannot imagine theaters enforcing mask-wearing AFTER you've sat down. This is going to kill off any desire most will have to go to a movie -- I guess perhaps you could buy a soft drink and sip it for 3 hours? Are they going to yell at you then?

Either way I agree with much of the sentiment in this editorial.

If theaters can't sell concessions, they can't make a profit, and you can't consume concessions without pulling your mask down. If people want to hermetically seal themselves in their homes for the next three years until it's "safe" to go out, fine, but I'm going to the goddamn movies the day they open up, and nothing is stopping me. If I have to wear a mask, fine (I never get popcorn anyways), but there's no way to enforce a "masks only" rule once the lights go down. As long as patrons wash/sanitize their hands before sitting down, things should be fine.

From the sounds of it, they intend for you to wear the mask all throughout the movie, in which case, they are screwing themselves. It should be like restaurants where you wear it then take it off once seated.

Either way I'm not paying to wear a mask for 3 hours, I don't even care what the movie is.

If you have to wear a mask through the whole movie, then concessions should not be offered. One shouldn't have to buy concessions (which I imagine are going to be marked up considerably) in order to be allowed to take off a mask.

My usual theater is scheduled to open on July 1st (Showcase Cinemas), so I'll let you all know how my experience goes. It doesn't even matter what's playing...I'm going.

Showcase opened up, reserved seating which you can pick out on their website, which I like. RAIDERS may not be a bad choice for $5 but I still think Theo is going to freak, we had to turn it off when we tried showing it to him before. Probably will be amplified more on the big screen.

Don't seem to be many tickets sold...at all...for any show.

There's nothing at the Showcase Dedham website indicating they're open. I'll have to call and see if there's something to see next week.

Mass. may not have opened theaters up yet, I think you're a little behind us.

This is what's in Warwick starting today -- not much really, I think they'd be a lot smarter to put even more vintage fare in there. Does anyone care about THE WAY BACK, THE HUNT and THE INVISIBLE MAN at this point?
