Its great for SINNERS -- and an empty marketplace bereft of competition helps -- but one of these every few months still isn't going to cut it when the theatrical world is as depressed as it's been this year. But I'd also argue this and THE ACCOUNTANT 2 are pretty much aimed at the same audience so it's good to see two R rated films playing well simultaneously.

I'm not surprised because this is a slick commercial product that's going to be one of those "handful of adult trips to the theater" type "event" movies of the year like we've seen for a lot of people. Me included, before the stupid IP films for teenagers starts rolling out.

This is a wild -- and disconcerting -- stat.

Also depressing. The singular highest grossing "original" movie in 15 years is this serviceable (but not spectacular) period vampire movie? I mean, that film was entertaining but it wasn't great, and all these people now on social media throw out the term "Oscars!" for it like it's "Amadeus".

I guess with the declining standards at the movies that's what gets people excited but it's sad when your measuring stick isn't David Lean but "Black Panther."
