I feel the need to take it upon myself to pimp this gorgeous ghost story from Guillermo del Toro. I finally saw it for the first time last night.
del Toro takes many different threads (ghost story, childhood drama, love triangle, treasure hunt, war picture) and pulls them together so effortlessly, it's just a joy to watch. Each of them works on its own, which is key to making the whole work.
Camerawork is by the always-excellent Guillermo Navarro. The music, which I thought was a nice surprise, is by Javier Navarrete.
