It's Polygram (and I suppose Universal controlled now), but was this one of those movies funded with a lot of international cash? If that's the case it might make sense as to why there are so many variants of the movie in different regions (as different companies control it in various territories). If not it's very odd that a Special Edition hasn't surfaced...especially one that addresses why Jodie Foster didn't stay in the Sean Penn role!
EDIT: I see it's a Universal Special Edition. I'm sure it'll surface here in that situation one way or another, though the extras seem to be from the Criterion laserdisc.

Sounds like a port of the Criterion laserdisc, which had the alternate ending on it.

Hopefully Criterion can get control of the title and release it on DVD here.

Boy I'd love to get my hands on this film- I have the Criterion LD. I loevd this film and I really like Fincher as a director- I think Howard Shore's "suicidal waltz" (as I call it) is one of his best themes and was used to perfection in this film. I'm waiting anxiously for it to get released over here!
