Want to know why people aren't going to the movies anymore? This is unbelievable.

"From the Studio Who Brought You GHOSTBUSTERS...." Apparently they haven't learned anything, either.

Amy Schumer is in early talks to star in Sony’s live-action “Barbie” film, sources tell Variety.

The original idea and screenplay is by Hilary Winston, although it is expected that Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, will rewrite.

The story is in the vein of “Splash”, “Enchanted” and “Big.” In it, the main character gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and lands in a real-world adventure.

The film will open in summer 2018. Lauren Abrahams will oversee the project for Sony Pictures.

Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Amy Pascal will produce. Parkes and MacDonald initiated the original deal with Mattel in 2014.

“Barbie” is a global brand power house with sales of over $3 billion dollars worldwide. Barbie has taken on more than 150 roles through her more than 50 years as a doll, including princess, president, mermaid and movie star.

Schumer was most recently seen in “Trainwreck,” and can be seen next in Fox’s currently untitled mother-daughter comedy with Goldie Hawn. She also recently wrapped production on the DreamWorks PTSD film “Thank You for Your Service” with Miles Teller.

Schumer is repped by UTA, managed by Guy Oseary at Maverick and Carrie Byalick at B. Her lawyer is Isaac Dunham of Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams.

Well, at least there's a ready-made music video...

Only thing I've ever seen Schumer in was Trainwreck, and I don't think I even cracked a smile at that. Then again, I haven't cracked a smile at a Judd Apatow movie since he started channeling James L. Brooks. :?

So this jumped studios. And stars.

Margot Robbie (at least that's a better choice) stars in another Warner AT&T project I wonder that their new Discovery corporate owners wish wasn't being made.

And Ryan Gosling....ummm....

I still feel like maybe this movie isn't being made for me.

Greta Gerwig's "reward" for making the acclaimed Lady Bird and Little Women is to make...a Barbie movie.

lol Music by Alexandre Desplat

Thank goodness Williams' career apexed when it did and he didn't have to work on crap like this. Just terrible DisneyLucas sequels.

Yes Deadline began the Oscar campaign last weekend. Not kidding!

Can't say I have any interest in this movie or property at all but the target demo, despite the PG-13, probably will. Critics love it because it's going to check all the boxes I'd imagine also.

It's also funny that Andy posted this seven years ago. Apparently, little has changed in the bad idea department.

And this is the movie that's going to "save the summer"?!?

LOL even if it's good, it's still BARBIE. And the way critics who usually do cartwheels over CAPTAIN MARVEL are doing the same for this makes me hugely "sus" as Theo would say.

Looks like Warner Bros. is going to finally get a hit after THE FLASH bottomed up.

Now looking like this "feast or famine" box-office pattern is set. You either are "it" or you're not. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE's opening isn't picking up. For these big studio movies, the audience that goes to the movies either is there on opening night/weekend or isn't coming at all now.
