She was a legend.

Without a doubt the best of the "Bond girls" -- and equally memorable as Emma Peel, one of the first truly strong, courageous -- and bad-ass -- woman characters in television.

One of my favorite performances of hers however was in a sadly-forgotten British miniseries called Mother Love, where she played an older woman whom everyone assumed was emotionally frail and pathetic -- but was behind-the-scenes murdering people she disliked.

Just a few days ago, I watched the new Blu-Ray release of "Evil Under The Sun" which was my first exposure to her when I saw it theatrically in early 1982. Even though she played a mega-bitch (who becomes the murder victim) she was still at that point breathtakingly beautiful. I think I first saw OHMSS on television a year or two later and then in the 90s was finally introduced to "The Avengers" and realized just how iconic she was and remained.

I will indeed always rate her #1 among the Bond girls because it took someone exceptional to be credible as the one who would make 007 give it all up for one woman (I still think it helped that Lazenby had the role in that film because had Connery done it, they don't cast Rigg in the part). She pulled it off and it made the end so heartbreaking.

I absolutely agree that she was the best Bond girl...her death will make the next time I watch OHMSS even more poignant and moving.

Apparently her last film role will be in Edgar Wright's upcoming "psychological horror" film Last Night In Soho, as he was Tweeting about being honored to have worked with her.
