Anything to keep Rian Johnson away from STAR WARS!

While it might seem like absurd money, from the point of view in the streaming-for-position wars -- where upstart services are jockeying for position with the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime -- it's likely a good bet for subscribers.

Netflix seems almost tailor-made to be totally uninteresting to my viewing tastes.

Blows my mind that Johnson will probably make more money in franchising a completely original idea with Knives Out than he made for directing a Star Wars movie.

Netflix supposedly mulling over giving this a 45-day theater-exclusive run before dumping in on their service...perhaps realizing that spending $450 million on a pair of sequels to a whodunnit mystery that cost $40 million may not have been a wise investment.

Yeah that was some ridiculous cash. Netflix needs all the help they can get right now with their stock in the toilet.

I will never understand the compulsion to wildly overspend on sequels to unexpected hit movies that cost very little. These are MURDER MYSTERIES, they don't need an MCU budget! :? If the first movie made over $300 million worldwide on a $40 mil budget, why couldn't they spend the same amount on the sequels? Yeah, I know a lot of what Netflix spent was lining the pockets of Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig, but it's still obscene. It's not like these are going to require tons of special effects or location changes.
