Never got around to buying the Blu-ray.
I do have the "superbit" DVD tho!

Aside from Elmer Bernstein's score and the "B-17 Bomber" segment, Heavy Metal does little for me. Had I seen it in the 80s, I'm sure the boobies n' blood would have impressed me, but seeing it for the first time on laserdisc around the age of 22 only accentuated how ramshackle the whole thing is.

It's an uneven film for sure, but for me it is anchored by the highly-entertaining "Den" segment, and the triumphant, climactic "Taarna" chapter.

Definitely a movie that had a heavy novelty value at the time, plus obviously works better if you're 12 years old -- but I could say the same thing about any modern day Marvel movie too.
A mixed bag for sure but it's interesting viewing and the soundtrack is great! Both Elmer's score and even the songs had a lot of huge hits on there.

Wow the 4K UHD of HEAVY METAL is surprisingly outstanding. The Blu-Ray transfer is fine but there's a level of noise in the image that you can immediately tell is absent here -- with added detail as a big benefit of the UHD. I wasn't sure how much this could be upgraded with 4K but this is a great transfer, well worth picking up if you're a fan.
