"Happy" 30th Anniversary to BASIC INSTINCT

Can't say this is one of my favorites but this landmark trashy psycho-thriller hits 30 today -- I remember seeing it junior year of high school and all the craziness that ensued from it.

What's interesting is that Studio Canal did a 4K restoration -- and released a UHD overseas complete with another of those "historian featurettes" with Lukas and Jeff Bond among the talking heads -- but Lionsgate has NO interest in bringing it stateside, apparently. Not even with an Anniversary to match.

I thought Basic Instinct was...interesting, but also over-the top and self-consciously "provocative" to the point of silly.

Goldsmith's score is incredibly well-written, visceral and intense -- but also over-the-top at times. When I saw the film opening night, some people in the audience actually started laughing at that solo trumpet cue near the end of the film...

To this day I have never seen BASIC INSTINCT. The one I saw was FATAL ATTRACTION back in the day.

BASIC INSTINCT is glossy and very well-made on a number of levels, but FATAL ATTRACTION is a far superior movie.
