Andy

I have only ever seen a trailer for this, it never came to the UK, do not even recall a VHS tape to be honest! not asking for a disc review but any chance you can post one of your "normal" type reviews of the film. I like your opinions & it will give me a guide as buy it or not.

Understand if you are busy, just thought I would ask.

Such a long time to remember this film's release. I do remember the LP and tape and sending it out to the record shops.

Hey John

Did this get a UK release?

I do know 100% the trailers were issued by NSS, but never seem to go any further & I was doing a number of DEG releases about that time?

I did have a tape of the John Scott score, so I guess I can thank you for that one as you were involved in mailing them out! Got mine at 58 Dean Street Records.

Andy, I will, just for you. I have a monster-fan 3rd grader who I'm guessing will want to see this so I can justify picking it up. ;)

I actually remember seeing it in theaters in 6th grade -- my Mom picked me up and we went right after school, I think it was the last day before Christmas vacation. The movie opened quietly and bombed completely, and quickly...no fanfare and scant advertising. John Scott's theme is such a GREYSTOKE rehash it's hard to separate it!

I recall thinking it was fun at the time, but I haven't seen it since. There was a widescreen DVD that I think ended up coming out from Fox of all labels back at some point -- but this would be a Studio Canal property now. I'm sure some other label will pick it up too.

I was managing a video store around that time, and seem to remember seeing it on VHS, but can't be sure. Yes, we used to supply 58 Dean Street Records.

I taped this movie off the TV back in the 90s. However, when I sat down to watch it, the tape ran out before the movie was over (I'd overestimated the amount of room left on the cassette).

But I honestly never had interested in finishing it at a later date.

John Scott's score was pretty good -- but below his usual standard IMO. Varese was all set to release the album, but at the last minute MCA snatched-up the rights. John Scott and Varese had produced a finished album but MCA just comandeered it to release themselves. You could even see the Varese serial number etched into the vinyl -- but crossed-out and replaced with MCA's!

It's bad. But very watchably bad. And frizzy haired Linda Hamilton as well!

I just rented "King Kong Lives" on Amazon Prime this morning ($2.99) and watched the first bit before heading to work. I like John Scott's score (though it's no "Greystoke") and wanted to hear it in the film, and I have never seen this movie. So far the movie is almost as good as J. Lee Thompson's "King Solomon's Mines."

The quality of the video transfer is actually very good. I'll finish watching tonight.
