Henry Cavill OUT as Superman
Cavill's return as Superman is great news -- he was the best thing in MAN OF STEEL and the other Synder films -- but what's really exciting is the prospects of him making an UPBEAT Superman movie, one the actor is teasing where Superman is going to be, well, Superman for a change.
One where he's not stalking Lois Lane (Bryan Singer's lousy, and now increasingly creepy/unwatchable SUPERMAN RETURNS), or where he's inadvertently killing masses of innocent victims (MAN OF STEEL) or, well, dying (BATMAN V SUPERMAN).
The problem with the movie Supermans since the Reeve era has been writers that want to change Superman, or have him be mopey and flawed. There's no reason you can't make a film that's "inspiring" as Cavill notes in this interview but with kick-ass action and plenty of classic Man of Steel lore behind it.
The TV series have been much better at capturing Superman than the films have in recent decades -- hopefully this new Cavill deal (he's left THE WITCHER series to make a new movie apparently) will change that in the right direction.
Certainly would form a grounding for the future of the DC movie universe as well, a shift away from the dark, borderline R-rated SynderVerse. (There are rumors THE BATMAN 2 is dead and Affleck is coming back for a straighter Batman series instead -- who knows where that's headed).

Re: Henry Cavill Teases "Bright Future" and "Joyful" Return as SUPERMAN
This was pretty much hinted at in his BLACK ADAM cameo -- complete with Williams' theme being used as well:
https://movieweb.com/henry-cavill-expla ... an-return/“John Williams’ theme song is obviously incredibly important to the character. It’s something which resonates with the character and everything time I think anyone in the world hears that, I think a large portion of the world who hears that will recognize it immediately as Superman and feel a certain way about it, and I do think it’s wonderful.”

Here's an article from someone who is less than musically (and aesthetically) literate...

Scroll down their site to read another article: "Man of Steel 2 Needs Hans Zimmer's Score".

Yes, because kids came out of Man Of Steel, tied a bath towel around their necks, and ran around their backyards humming Zimmer's "theme".

Well if he can coax John Williams out of retirement, I'm all for it...

Steven Spielberg Might Direct Man Of Steel 2
It was revealed not too long ago that Steven Spielberg, David Zaslav, Peter Safran and Christopher Nolan all met for lunch, and we’re now hearing reports that Warner Bros Discovery and DC Studios might be looking at Spielberg to direct a Superman movie. There are now rumours flying around the Internet suggesting that Warners and DC want Steven Spielberg to direct a Man Of Steel 2, which would be incredible if it ends up happening.
The news that Spielberg, Nolan, Safran and Zaslav all met for a lunch in which they discussed potential future projects was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, and this sounds like exactly the right thing that Warner Bros’ new leadership should be doing. They need these big name directors back on their side. Christopher Nolan, for instance, exclusively made movies for Warner Bros. Pictures, and after the whole HBO Max movie release strategy fiasco during the pandemic, Nolan opted to no longer work exclusively for the studio.
Could Steven Spielberg direct Man Of Steel 2?
That was a pretty huge movie in Hollywood and one that really hurt Warners. It looks like they might be trying to get the likes of Nolan and Spielberg – who also made most of his movies exclusively with Warners and was very vocal in his criticisms about the studio’s decision to release their latest movies on the streaming platform – back directing tentpole movies for them.
The fact that Peter Safran was also present during this lunch meeting is very interesting. Why, you ask? Well, it’s simple. Safran is the new co-CEO of DC Studios and therefore, the fact that he was present has led a lot of people to speculate that they might have been talking about future DC Studios projects with the two directors. One of the things that immediately comes to mind when we all heard Spielberg’s name was Superman.
Will he make his Blackhawk movie for DC Studios?
There was a point in time when Spielberg was attached to a Blackhawk project, which is a DC Comics property. They could have been talking about that again. However, I would argue that Warner Bros Discovery would be more interested in getting a big name like Spielberg’s attached to one of their bigger superhero properties, and you can’t get much bigger than Superman.
This all comes after it was revealed that Henry Cavill is going to be back in the DC Universe as Superman, and we’ve also heard reports that Warners and DC Studios are accepting pitches for a Man Of Steel sequel. So, if you put two and two together, it seems as though Zaslav and Safran might have been talking to Spielberg and Nolan about a future Superman film. I would love to see the two directors working on DC properties, and I really think Warner Bros needs big name directors like them to really propel their DC movies’ quality and box office takings.

Spielberg's name was also floated for the MCU Fantastic Four.

I wouldn't doubt he wants in on the only movie genre Hollywood wants to make anymore.
What is a little telling is he doesn't want to do it with Disney. The supposed "caretakers" of his and Lucas' legacy he wants little to do with.

Re: Henry Cavill Teases "Bright Future" and "Joyful" Return as SUPERMAN
This has to be what Cavill was promised -- that this isn't going to be a heavy, Snyder-esque MAN OF STEEL follow-up, but rather a different stylistic take that's more upbeat and fun.
Very clearly James Gunn and WB apparently want to wipe the slate clean for the new DC big-screen entries -- I have no problem with this either. (They also said this week they don't want "four different" Batmen running around at the same time also, which probably means Pattinson's time might be short lived)
Wiping out MAN OF STEEL's "moral consequence" angle and starting over is going to be fine with most fans.

And just like that, its over!
Maybe Godot is done also now after all.

I hear they are going back to a young Superman/Clark Kent. Boring...pass for me.

Re: Henry Cavill OUT as Superman
In hindsight, was Gunn's second iteration of THE SUICIDE SQAUD that much of a moneymaker that Warner decided to put that much stock in him? If it was DC's decision to bring him onboard, then all he has really is the competitor's two hot properties as a selling point. I don't know, I don't have anything against James Gunn and actually like him - bad personal choices and politics notwithstanding. But I think Cavill and Godot are two fan favorite choices here, despite the Snyder era. Unless they radically change the landscape for these characters where these actors no longer fit the vision, I'd say they are making a mistake. I didn't even mind Momoa as Acquaman. Everything else you can pretty much write off.
I didn't sit through the whole movie, but the best thing going for the messy BLACK ADAM was that post credits scene.

Re: Henry Cavill OUT as Superman
Ed -- no it wasn't, and personally I found it overpraised and not all that more entertaining than the first one. But the Guardians success must be driving the bus entirely there in terms of the position Gunn holds.
It's a strange situation they have themselves in at the moment, because I can understand wanting to wipe the slate clean and start over. Yet they have projects ready for release like AQUAMAN 2 and THE FLASH, which are tied into the Snyderverse (or whatever you want to call it), plus THE BATMAN which is not a "family friendly" take on Batman to the degree that they may want to just end those films. And then you've got THE JOKER in its own place and time and a sequel coming there also.
Plus, are they going to dump Cavill -- despite him showing up in BLACK ADAM -- while retaining Godot? That wouldn't on paper seem to make a lot of sense, but then again, it's a messy situation Gunn has to clean up.
In a certain sense I can understand there's baggage with the Superman films, the whole Lois Lane deal they probably want to recast as Amy Adams is older/curvier than she used to be, so this "younger" trend I suppose makes sense...but clearly Cavill got mixed signals since they brought him back for the Black Adam cameo and he's out there announcing (and was told to announce!) his return...only to have it nixed mere weeks after the fact. Probably cost him THE WITCHER's next season too, since my guess is he bowed out of that thinking he was getting super hero work that now isn't happening.
EDIT - Well that didn't take long!
