Hailee's first non-voiceover big-screen role since Bumblebee...in 2018. Anyways, glad to see Coogler finally making an original movie again.

The hell is this movie. Trailers just bizarre but they run enough to scare my kid everytime!

Hailee in a filmy white dress is all I need to know.

Let me guess: all the bad characters in this movie are white/members of the KKK. Now that I've seen the trailers, looks like that's how this movie will play out.

9.5/10
Phenomenal. I can't remember the last time a movie left me this buzzed, a wild melange of Walter Hill gangsta action and From Dusk Till Dawn gore that's one of the best genre films in a long time. I may even see it again in theaters. And Hailee is hotter than the surface of the sun.
Highest recommendations!

Rough road to turning a profit but all stations go otherwise.
Only horror movie to net an A Cinemascore rating in 35 years.

The key difference here being, audiences have REALLY liked this, so this likely won't have the usual 70% second-weekend decline. It's very heartening to see a great, non-IP original generating this kind of buzz and box office (20% of which came from IMAX screens). More of this, please.

Its still a rough ride to go when it cost $90 mil. Very little foreign money coming in also.
Still looking forward to seeing it, going Tuesday in Xplus and it cost me $0.00 with whatever rewards we had accrued.

This is still an amazing opening for an R-rated movie full of cunnilingus discussion. I think it’s gonna leg out to a degree rarely seen with horror, especially with the biggest competition next weekend being a reissue of the least-mediocre Star Wars prequel.

I just looked it up, and Sinners made more in its opening weekend than the last threeAlien movies, and without the benefit of a built-in audience for an established franchise. That's impressive as hell.

I don't know why Variety -- which is a left-wing outlet -- is dumping on the gross of a "black movie". Maybe it's some kind of studio politics involving Warner, who knows, that they have built in.
Either way, it's worth a mention the budget was $90 million -- and being practical, a southern-set, black, period vampire movie will not have the international pull an ALIEN movie will, so the foreign gross isn't going to be that great. It is worth wondering if it will be profitable, but we'll have to see what it does next weekend and going forward...it's going to need the US market to make its dollars.
That shouldn't be the lead story though, it's that an actual movie without a IP connection made money is the headline.

It's awfully suspect. Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood had an almost identical budget and an opening weekend that was considerably smaller ($41 million) six years ago, and no one was questioning whether or not it was going to turn a profit before the opening weekend was up.

A solid 8 for me.
The opening half hour was unnecessarily slow and could have been cut down. And I'm not so sure Ryan Cogler really wanted to make a horror movie so much as a folksy period romantic fable that really seems like it wants to be a musical. I mean anyone who thinks this movie and its appeal are audiences who go see traditional horror crap is lost...no wonder it got an A Cinemascore, it's a "horror movie" for about 30 of its 150 minutes.
That said its compelling, odd, and incredibly entertaining. Some of the music is excellent. Some of the score is good...and some of it is atrocious....but I was satisfied on the whole.
Also calling it now: this will be on Broadway in about a decade with new songs by Lin Manuel Miranda. Mark my words, it will happen if it continues to do well!

Only a 6% decline in box office in weekend two.
Not only that, but in the same weekend we have a reissue of a 20-year-old sci-fi movie you can watch for "free" on D+ make almost $30 million and a sequel to a nine-year-old, adult-skewing Ben Affleck action/thriller make about $25 million. Spreading the wealth around to a variety of audiences, just the way I like it.
