Love of an Icon: The Legend of Crocodile Dundee Trailer

#1 Post by John Johnson »

A 4K restoration of the film, I'm up for that. I wonder if we will finally get the Australian cut of the film?

Crocodile Dundee burst onto global screens and into the hearts of millions nearly 40 years ago, and is still Australia’s most successful film of all time. But little does anyone know, that behind this cultural icon – was a cast and crew with largely no feature film experience, last-minute funding struggles, and an industry that never saw it coming.

During the 4K restoration of Crocodile Dundee (the 4K restoration is titled Crocodile Dundee: The Encore Cut, and opens in cinemas on May 8), a treasure trove of unseen archival material was uncovered from the collection of Crocodile Dundee co-creator John Cornell, the late husband of Australia’s beloved Delvene Delaney. Inspired by this discovery, Delvene – along with the help of her friend and Media Executive, Victoria Baldock, has created Love of an Icon: The Legend of Crocodile Dundee – a revealing and heartfelt documentary that invites audiences behind the scenes to witness the battles, breakthroughs, and unbelievable twists that made the film a reality.

More than just a “making-of”, Love of an Icon: The Legend of Crocodile Dundee is a testament to conviction, mateship, and sheer determination: a film that almost never happened, but went on to define a generation.

Love of an Icon: The Legend of Crocodile DundeeE features never before seen footage and candid interviews with many who were an integral part of the origin story, including; Paul Hogan, Delvene Delaney, John Cornell (Co-Creator), Linda Kozlowski, Peter Fairman (Director), Russell Boyd (Cinematographer), David Gulpilil and John Meillon.

Love of an Icon: The Legend of Crocodile Dundee opens in cinemas nationally on March 27

Apparently we won't be getting that original, uncensored (R-rated) Aussie cut, because the release they're putting out down there is the standard US theatrical version.

There also are 4K masters available of both DUNDEE 1 & 2 digitally from Paramount -- they've been out a while so I'd expect they'll come to disc at some point (soon).

Andy,
Yes, I heard from my Australian contact today, and she confirmed it's not the Australian cut. I am interested in seeing the documentary though.

I have some additional information from Australia, not sure how accurate it is.

"Its not, the international cut which your referring to is 98 minutes long, this encore cut is 100 minures after a few minutes cut out.
I think they are using the Australian cut as that was 104 minutes, with the drag queen scenes cut it would be around 100 minutes.
The international cut if it was that it would make it around 95 minutes long so it can't be the international cut which was used in the US, or they could be adding scenes that have never been seen.
Paul Hogan owns all the rights to it so I assume he is involved, and he would have l the original film reels"

I guess we'll find out before May.
