Hooper is indeed a surprising choice. Though, not only have I heard of him, but actually have worked with him on a project several years ago. Interesting. How would you describe his style / influences? And what's his history? Is he clasically trained? Or a keyboard composer whose orchestrator takes...

I never read the book, but I was put-off by the self-important tone of the trailer -- the way it infers this is a monumentally important film (and the loud, "important" music didn't help -- did Hans Zimmer score the trailer as well?). But hey, I'm glad for the guy who wrote the book. Appar...

I do think they should hold onto Williams' themes, but as for Williams himself, it seems that he's determined to do what he originally said he wanted to do with the first Star wars trilogy - write enough thematic material so he could hand the series over to another composer a la Ken Thorne and Supe...

Is it true that Lalo Schifrin was originally supposed to score X3? If so, why didn't it work out? Studio preferences and "ageism"?

Just wondering...

Singer has gone back to the original movies which is going to be interesting but also ambitious and with a degree of difficulty attached -- he's got a lot to measure up to, tying in so directly to the Reeve movies, and it'll be fascinating to see how he fares. One thing's for sure, it will be bette...

It's amazing, the benefits of hearing John Williams' score... You can say that again. John Ottman's connection to this film was the primary reason I had no interest in seeing it. But seeing the trailer, Williams' music electrifies every scene where its used. (I wish Mike Newell had similarly aknowl...

I saw this movie with Andy during my annual pilgramage to New England. He and I were of the same opinion, Event Horizon was a prime example of "so bad its good". What was depressing to me was that I was in England two weeks earlier, just before this film came-out, and BBC news was making a...

Goldsmith's "rejected score" for Poltergest III?

Ok, this is NOT an April Fool's joke. I came across this at youtube.dom. Someone posted clips from Poltergeist III, which he claims contain "Jerry Goldsmith's rejected score". http://www.youtube.com/results?search=jerry+goldsmith&search_type=search_videos&search=Search Now...I was ...

Re: KNOTS LANDING Lands on DVD

It's funny -- even trash TV was a LOT better back in the '70s and '80s than it is today :( The problem today is TV shows are all so self-important. Every show has an agenda. Writers and producers overestimate their importance (and intelligence) and use their shows as socio-political soap boxes, and...

Re: DARK KINGDOM (aka Ring of the Nibelungs) Debuts on Sci-F

Just noticed this 2004 German TV movie (also aka Sword of Xanten) is on Sci-Fi tonight -- its U.S. debut. I'm guessing it ain't that great That's the understatement of the week! Theoretically based on the same Germanic myths which inspired Wagner's "Ring Cycle", the production actually ha...

Here's a link to Prolx's pity-party... http://books.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,1727309,00.html#article I love how Prolx blasts the decadent, out-of-touch Hollywood nuveau-riche -- yknow, the people who bankrolled Brokeback Mountain. Obviously the makers of "Trash" (as she calls it) de...

You should check out the Henson Company's MIRRORMASK, which I reviewed this week. Very eclectic film, not for all tastes No argument here! I saw this earlier this week. As they used to say in Laugh-In, "very interesting". Imaginitive visuals, but a little TOO "out there", at lea...
