While he was probably the most celebrated martial artist to emerge from the west, he was sadly never offered the choicest roles when Hollywood came calling. He certainly had a stronger screen presence than someone like Steven Segal (who got offered higher-concept projects -- yet whose career fizzled within a few years).
I admit most of his films weren't my kind of thing, but as someone who practiced martial arts myself, I have enormous veneration for him as a martial artist.
