Edward Norton Writing HULK -- and Starring Too...

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

Sounds good to me. Again he confirms they're neglecting Ang Lee's movie altogether -- which is, no matter how you feel about it, probably for the best.

EDWARD NORTON has dismissed any connection between The Incredible Hulk and the last Hulk movie.

The 2003 movie starring ERIC BANA was panned by critics and Norton was quick to distance his new film from it.

“First off it’s utterly unrelated to that film,” he said, in this month’s Total Film magazine.

“This is in no way a response to it or picking up from it.

"I think like Chris Nolan and those guys did with Batman, we just said: 'We’re going to start completely with our own version of this myth or saga.'

And the Fight Club star revealed that he turned down the part of Bruce Banner and his alter ego before being wooed by the chance to write the screenplay himself.

“When the phone rings and someone says, ‘Hey, would you be interested in the big green guy?” there’s that part of all of us that doesn’t want to look like an idiot,” he admitted.

“There’s the wince factor or the defensive part of you that recoils at what the bad version of what that would be. And I did that, basically. I said ‘no’ to it a couple of times.”

Now firmly on board Norton revealed that The Incredible Hulk is just the beginning.

“To me the whole thing was to envision it in multiple parts,” he said.

“We left a lot out on purpose. It’s definitely intended as chapter one.”

There were moments of Lee's HULK that I did like- but I think it's a good idea to shift gears NOW rather than wait for four films before deciding it's time to start all over again...a la the BATMAN franchise.

"False start.....Number 2003, Incredible Hulk. Five year penalty.....repeat, first film!" :D

LOL! And indeed thats the case!

From what I read about the script, the Hulk actually manages to be heroic in this one...something omitted entirely from the Lee version other than one scene I recall where he kind of saved one of the jet pilots from crashing if my memory is correct.

I liked the Lee movie on balance but disliked it as a "Hulk movie'. Sounds like they've intentionally gone back to the Bill Bixy-Lou Ferrigno series for inspiration here, realized kids like the Hulk, and landed a top notch cast too. Like IRON MAN and the new BATMAN this could be a really good summer for comic book flicks :)

Can we petition to not have Danny Elfman on this movie?

  Best line of the day David!

I'm all for it too. When I learned he was doing HULK after the SPIDER-MAN scores (which I'm not especially fond of either) I recall getting a little irate and people trying to calm me by saying he wasn't just going to write another phoned-in comic book score.

We all know how that turned out, lol...

Hey, check out these pictures on IMDB.

With the first picture, I thought I was seeing Bill Bixby for a moment.

No kidding! They have made a point to say the model for this movie was the series and Bill Bixby, that the Hulk can actually be heroic and sympathetic. A good place to start in my book.
