Assault on Precinct 13 (Restored Collector’s Edition)

Image Entertainment have announced the US DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Assault on Precinct 13 (Restored Collector’s Edition) on 3rd February 2009. In the 1976 original by director John Carpenter a police station is under siege from a vicious street gang and becomes a cataclysmic battleground where only the strongest survive.

Priced at $19.98 SRP on DVD and $29.98 SRP on Blu-ray Disc, the film has been newly restored and now boasts a high-definition digital film transfer and new 5.1 remix. Full details follow...

I watched this a few weeks ago and the transfer was really terrific except for about two minutes where it looked like absolute garbage on my 42 inch Samsung. For those familiar with the film, it is during the siege, when Leigh gets shot in the arm while she's trying to get Wilson out of his cell.

I wonder if Image is aware of this and planning to correct the problem.

I'd love to take a look at this but Image's PR department has fallen by the wayside it seems. :(

As much as I want to publicize their discs, the fact is that the PR firms employed by the majors are just more accessible and willing to deal with the press sometimes than smaller labels.

Hopefully we'll see it on sale so I can pick it up on my own dime ;)
