Anthony Hopkins: “That’s insanity. What possesses an intelligent guy like that to do that? It’s a great honor, but once you start insisting on that, oh dear. Give me a break, it’s only an actor.”
Roger Moore: “I think insisting on being called ‘Sir’ is a load of pretentious b******t. as for film posters and opening titles, I don’t see the point. Would it really add anything to have one’s title included? I think it’s the actor people want to see, not the Knight.”
And, in his own defense…
Ben Kingsley: “It’s Sir Ben. I’ve not been a mister for two years . . . Perhaps (the title) is an invitation by the realm and the Prime Minister to say, ‘He now plays for England, so perhaps you should listen to him a little more diligently.’”
On changing his name on his passport to include his title: “There is no Mr Ben Kingsley any more. Being a Sir brings with it responsibility. I think everyone should behave like a knight.”
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that since getting knighted, this man’s life and reputation has turned into a bad Nabakov short story? And one rewritten by Uwe Boll at that.
