The article is interesting, but it makes a lot of assumptions that I don't know will hold up.

The author is assuming that Episode VII is somehow going to be shooting in less than two months and will somehow be in theaters in less than two years. I strongly doubt both of those premises. I think it far more likely that the movie may begin shooting by the end of the year, but may need to push into next year to give it enough prep time. We've already discussed here that the release date will likely push into 2016.

It sounds from the discussion in the article that the producers and Abrams want to try for a LOOK that is more in line with the original trilogy. But there's an easy way if they want the film grain to look the same. Shoot it on film. How hard is that to figure out? The answer is that they intend to shoot it digitally but want to find a software to make it look like older film. It's ideas like this that always give me pause with Abrams. Frankly, this makes the project sound a lot more like Super 8 than a new entry in the Star Wars canon.

I remember the last time a Lucasfilm production claimed it would be using "as little CGI as possible"...and it opened with a shot of a cartoon gopher. :?

Well, as we discussed, this is the easiest way to make something look like it was shot on film, isn't it?

I heard something about Abrams being frustrated that shooting on film means he can't do all the anamorphic lens flares he likes. I really hope that someone can be on set to tell him to cool it with the flares. Please.

Complaining about lens flares in J.J. Abrams movies is getting to be FAR more annoying than actual lens flares in J.J. Abrams movies.

I disagree...I am really sick of seeing them. The new ST film was full of them and it's old to me. Hence the complaints.
