I'd certainly be up for more music from that film. I'd also be happy to see an expanded Willow -- even tho that's not one of my favorite Horner scores, the unreleased music for the mountain fight / chase is the best cue in the score (and some of his best music period).Monterey Jack wrote:There's at least ten minutes' worth of fine music from The Land Before Time that didn't make the CD, and there's always the possibility of alternate and/or unused cues.

Recorded in October 2014 in Los Angeles (see our article) the score from The 33, composed by James Horner, will be published under the Warner Bros label Watertower Music. The CD will be released on November 6 while the movie, directed by Patricia Riggen, will be released in U.S. theaters one week later on November 13.
We will soon have more details including artwork for the album and look forward to share this with our readers.

The good news is the score to The 33 has now been listed on Amazon. The bad news, it's a CD-R.

HOLLYWOOD IN VIENNA:
THE WORLD OF JAMES HORNER
Varèse Sarabande Blu-ray
Coming June, 2016
On June 22 it will have been one year since we lost James Horner in a tragic plane crash. It was an unimaginable loss. A brilliant composer with a legendary career, so busy and so vital to his film music community, lost so suddenly. There was a profound and deeply felt grief that was shared by so many. An excerpt from the Facebook text I wrote expressing my own sadness that terrible evening:
“James was embracing and beginning a whole new chapter of his musical life — concert music composition and live performance. I cherish the time and opportunity I had with him at Hollywood In Vienna in 2013. I conducted a symposium for one hour and twenty minutes, discussing James’ memories of certain films and the creative process of composing. James teared up three times during our talk and he told me that the concert tribute to him there was the first time he had heard his film music in a concert hall. The whole trip to Vienna was a very emotional experience for James, who had a special tie to the city through his father, who spent his youth there. The event was something of a pilgrimage for James. It was an honor to speak with him and an absolute joy to sit three seats from him and watch him enjoy a concert of highlights of his life’s work. The concert was brilliantly conducted by David Newman.”
In the following days I heard from so many people who found so much solace in seeing photos and footage of this concert, and this made a great impression on me. I knew that this was a concert that had to be shared and had to be available to James’ fans around the world. And now it is!
Coming in June will be Varèse Sarabande’s first Blu-ray release
Hollywood In Vienna: The World of James Horner
A deluxe presentation in every way.
The Blu-ray includes:
- The complete concert in HD and DTS 5.1 surround sound
- The 75-minute symposium I conducted with James
- A 32-page full color booklet with notes and photos on the whole historic and very moving celebration of James Horner in Vienna
The program included music from James’ most-loved scores including Avatar, Titanic, Braveheart, Willow, The Rocketeer, An American Tail, A Beautiful Mind and many more. I am so happy to finally be able to share the images, the memories and the music that I have cherished myself, so much over the last year. In memory of James, and for his countless fans all over the world… Hollywood In Vienna: The World of James Horner – A Varèse Sarabande Blu-ray. – Robert Townson

Get a load of this clever, touching and sad (yet at the same time funny) tribute to the composer, by Jon and Al Kaplan...
For me the best part is undoubtedly the reference to Zimmer!

Funny video! I enjoy the appearance of the "danger" motif in the song.
I always loved their podcasts, I wish they still did them. Their end of year FSM articles were always a highlight.

Re: James Horner - Appreciation Thread
Some of you may have noticed the decrease in the number of publications on the site in the past year or so. Indeed, following our meeting with Sara & Emily Horner in March 2018, we became involved in two important projects and we had to put aside the articles for the site. We continue to follow the news with the releases (La-La Land / Intrada) but our efforts are focused on these two projects that are really close to our hearts. On this particular day of the 4th anniversary of James Horner's death, it seemed appropriate to us to talk to you about these two projects. We won't go into details yet, but at least you'll know.
PROJECT 1
We all know and love the vast musical universe James Horner left us. Even in this universe we know so well there are still parts that remain shrouded in mystery, pieces from the puzzle that are missing, some having been discovered and then swiftly forgotten. But soon, the time has come for us to show the world these forgotten and treasured gems. Our goal is that you will be able to listen to these gems soon. We will have more information to share with you in September.
PROJECT 2
James Horner's professional career deserves to be told. So we are writing a biography and we are aiming for a paper publication. The work is huge. We are ambitious and very rigorous in proposing the reference work on the composer. We rely on 300 sources: 150 interviews with the composer, some 20 unpublished or rare, and 150 interviews with collaborators, a third of which are unpublished. For example, at the beginning of James Horner's career, we had the great honour of interviewing Roger Corman, Nicholas Meyer, Christopher Cain… The book will offer a new look at the composer with exclusive information. As exhaustiveness is one of our main objectives, we are calling for testimony. The James Horner Film Music Association would like to collect as many testimonies as possible about the composer. So if you would like to share your anecdotes, your memories of the composer for him to appear in the book, please fill out the form below or click on this link.
