If it's that bad, stop posting there. Stop going.

It's really that simple.

Andy has "known" me for about 15 years now.

I was with FSM almost since day one.

Around the time Maestro Goldsmith died, I made the "mistake" of registering on their forums because I NEEDED to commiserate with fellow enthusiasts about the whole thing.

Within 24 hours of a post of mine going up in one of the "Goldsmith death tribute" threads they had going there...I found myself being attacked in a thread because I simply made a comment along the lines of: "I'm going to make sure I buy as much Goldsmith music as I can in his honor."

Somehow I had a few know it alls attack me for making Goldsmith's death trite, collecting his music like bottle caps like "he would have hated" and the rest of it.

Never mind the fact that I'm probably as big of a Goldsmith fan as you're going to find anywhere and I buy music because it means something to me.

It didn't matter to these people. They allow a relatively few vocal, bad apples to basically have run of the place.

After about a page or so of this crap, I simply wrote back and told these specific individuals to @$% off in no uncertain terms and to get over themselves and I IM'd directly one of the mods and told them what a @#$%ing disgrace I thought the whole thing was. I also showed it to Lukas.

Not much was done about it and I got some mealy mouthed, wishy washy non answer from the mod at that time and I just never bothered to come back.

Lukas was, and is, far too busy and I don't think he bothered to respond. I don't remember. If he did, obviously the response wasn't very memorable. *shrugs*

The Internet is too large and life is too short. If a place like that is unpleasant, get out and move on. It's that simple. Stop going there. No good can come of it.

That's one of the reasons why I was very grateful when I found out that Andy had this place going. :)

Agreed!

I'll post something more substantial when I'm finished doing some MS SQL queries :(
Indeed,
Ed

Ed, much appreciated and thanks.

I have to admit I can never 100 percent cut ties there because of the aspects of that place that are still enjoyable. The baseball thread that our mutual friend Jim (Anzaldiman) set up has been a joy, and the nice thing is the bad apples stay clear of it (even Score-O, aka Originalthinkr has of late been on best behavior in that thread) given how little they know about baseball.

But I am glad that Andy has set up this kind of place where we need not worry about that kind of animosity that has plagued FSM too often from cropping up here.

My experience with the mods and Lukas is about the same. I emailed Lukas and he more or less defended some of the posters by saying it would be a form of censorship, which he is against. I guess on the FSM board, it's open season on any fan or composer you wish to slag off .

I basically got the same thing and just left in silence.

The other side of the coin that happened was I decided that they would never get any of my money short of an occasional disc I might want. No $5 a month Internet subscription from me.

Their thread called "Dilemma" is another pathetic low in what the lowlights of that board can churn out.

If they want to redeem their even dwindling credibility and save themselves a lot of needless headaches? Why not just shut that damned forum down entirely and forget about it?

It's obvious no one wants to be bothered to keep the place in order, so just end it and everyone's better off for it in one fell, quick swoop.

Two people are so obsessed with making cheap shots, look at how they stick their feet in their mouth big time just because they want to desperately look for an excuse to make their cheap shot.

I had my own issue over there earlier today. I'm beginning to think it's not just best to not say something that's negative, it's probably best not to say anything there at all.

Of course if it weren't for one poster who goes out of his way to slam me at every given opportunity (I could simply write the word "Test" and get blasted!), the place might be a bit different.

Thank goodness for the baseball thread there though! :)

Andy, thanks for allowing me to indulge in a tiny bit of letting off steam. I don't want to ever abuse that privilege though and if I ever seem to, let me know.

Mr. Greg Bryant's plea to the moderator gave me the biggest laugh of the day.

LOL, it doesn't get much better than that, does it?

Eric did you take up debate in school by any chance? You have far more patience for some of the fools on that board than I ever would, so I'm guessing you've been trained in it :)
