Excited by the prospect of getting the terrific Breakdown, but want to hear about the transfer before I commit.

Big news here for me is THE BAD NEWS BEARS...talk about long overdue. Though like a lot of these Paramount titles, I bought the streaming version off Vudu years ago for cheap so I'm not rushing to fork over $30 for picture quality that's coming from the same source. (Ditto BREAKDOWN, BLACK SUNDAY, DEAD AGAIN, FIRE IN THE SKY, etc. Much of my streaming library are Paramount titles that never made it to Blu-Ray in the US)

You should be fine with BREAKDOWN, the streaming version looks pretty good.

I picked up Via Vision's BD of Sidney Lumet's NIGHT FALLS ON MANHATTAN and was relieved it turned out well, the transfer was obviously new-ish and really looks fine.

It's just the ones with ancient masters you have to be concerned with. Problem is they give you no information on these transfers and they're not paying extra for new scans.

Something with very little viewer interest like DAY OF THE LOCUST is an instance where Paramount probably one made up one HD master years ago and never revisited it because it's not a movie that moves many units. My bad for just pulling the trigger there.
I hope Deep Discount will have those available eventually because it's obvious that ordering direct from them will take forever.
They seem to have all of them available ahead of release date. I just preordered RAGE with Glenn Ford because it sounded interesting and YEAR OF THE DRAGON for the new extras, even if the transfer probably isn't going to be as good as the Warner Archive version.

Like you said Eric, I would definitely order when DDD puts them up and -- preaching to the choir I know -- avoid ordering from any Australian outlet directly.

Got my copy of Hard Eight today, and am very pleased with the transfer. It's obviously not a freshly-minted 2 or 4K scan (there's plenty of intermittent speckling and other minor print defects), but it still looks a lot better than the ancient DVD, with some crisp detail. Still, for the prices that Via Vision charges, we should get more than a decade+ old HD transfer, and whatever special features were on the DVD ported over. :? I mean, as long as I can bring the price tags down with Deep Discount coupons and/or digital copy Paypal funds, they're a nice value for long-requested titles that Paramount is dragging their feet on releasing here, but they're clearly not going the extra mile for fresh scans or exclusive extras...hell, just a booklet would be nice.

My Australia order of "Major Dundee" arrived yesterday. So now I have an extra sealed copy on-hand to decide what to do with eventually. The fact I did get the Australia ship eventually I can maybe take as a positive that I don't have to necessarily wait for Deep Discount on some titles but we'll see about that.

Just found out there's a 4K version of BREAKDOWN streaming now so I'd be willing to wager a Paramount domestic BD is very likely since it's been remastered.

I love LET IT RIDE, very underrated Richard Dreyfuss comedy, and have never seen an HD master so I'll sign up for that.

MOTHMAN PROPHECIES has never shown up on Blu here either and I'm a fan so if these pop up on the Deep discount site I might bite.

Mothman Prophecies is a grossly underrated slow-burn horror freak-out, so I'm totaly up for that. :)

Yes, I must say that when we saw that in the theater it definitely freaked us out and disturbed us a bit - and it's hard for me to get there. I am so surprised that it hasn't made it to BD yet.
Indeed,

And on a "pussy" PG-13 rating, no less, proving that you don't need to throw buckets of gore around to unnerve an audience.

Good to hear -- DDD is having a 15% off sale through 12-29 with code GIFT4ME, for anyone interested.

I used that to order the 4K Tremors. W/the discount and some recent DC sales, got it down to a little over $20. :)

TREMORS is sold out everywhere right now. Not sure they actually sold through their entire allotment or just a batch of it.

I bought a copy for $30 from Target during one of their sales in the last few months, then I actually received a review copy amazingly! Rare that Arrow provided me with something like that.
