Got my copy of Breakdown, with beautiful, mint-condition slip. Will watch tomorrow and report on the transfer quality.

Re: Via Vision Entertainment Announces New Label
Rewatching FIRE IN THE SKY, the transfer is old but the bit-rate is so high it makes it much more watchable than the streaming version. Certainly it's passable, and the sound is great. Superb extras also.
The movie is very frustrating, it takes far too long to get to "the good stuff" and there's a solid hour of tedium that sets in when Travis goes missing. This "domestic drama" portion of the movie is very soft. It's too bad because the cast is excellent and the abduction sequence is harrowing when it's shown, but it takes too long to get there and the filler isn't up to the level of the performers.

I ordered that and Let It Ride weeks ago, hopefully they show up from DDD soon.
Coincidentally the Mothman episode of Unsolved Mysteries was on as we were going to bed the other night!

Re: Via Vision Entertainment Announces New Label
Via did a nice job with LET IT RIDE. Even though this looks like an older master (very odd since we've never seen it anywhere before), the PQ is passable and the extras are mostly good.
Joe Pytka provided the deleted scenes Paramount trimmed from his workprint, and a phone interview where he mentions how much power Dreyfuss had on the movie. He alone vetoed Joe Pesci from being cast in the other lead because he "wasn't funny", leading to David "Buster Poindexter" Johansson being cast instead.
The studio also removed several excellent scenes from the start of the film, which we've never seen before but it makes sense now, because you'd never start a movie the way this movie does.
The commentary is absolute trash -- the guy starts talking about the opening of MAD MAX FURY ROAD and how the Warner studio logo changed to suit the needs of the movie. Like, WTF is he talking about. This movie has the same Paramount logo that opened every movie in the late '80s. No connection in any possible way -- he just "likes variants of studio logos".
It takes him a good 5-10 minutes before he even starts talking about THIS movie, and then he just -- you guessed it -- recites IMDB credits.

Re: Via Vision Entertainment Announces New Label
Not much in the July titles for me except THE HAUNTED -- this I liked a lot when I watched the laserdisc (which was full-screen!) back in college. Has a lovely Debbie Wiseman score and an early Kate Beckinsale performance, before she became all plasticy, went to Hollywood and had "chest enhancement surgery" (in fact, the nude scene in this movie is from a bustier body double). I recall the film being solid and effective. Must have been one of the last movies Lewis Gilbert helmed also.
I'll preorder it when DDD has another 15% sale.
Most of the other titles herein are either available in the US or will be soon --

The Gift is the last of two movies I need to complete my Sam Raimi collection (the other being the gripping A Simple Plan), so i'll definitely pick that one up.

It'd be nice if the Aussie release of Audrey Rose looked better than the crummy Twilight Time release, but no info about an updated transfer.

Re: Via Vision Entertainment Announces New Label
Yeah that will likely just be the same master. None of these Imprint releases have fresh scans or at least exclusive ones. Unless MGM did another one over the last year or two.
The problematic OSTERMAN WEEKEND sounds like a good release for the curious though.
MAROONED was one of the dullest scifi films I've ever seen.
