Re: THE BATMAN - June 2021 - Zoe Kravitz Signs On For Catwoman
If you can't write an interesting score for STAR TREK, you have a problem.
Giacchino has a problem. He just isn't talented. He can write notes, but they're not interesting ones.

In mitigation, Giacchino is at least striving to preserve the "old school" (i.e. artistry and technique) way of doing things. And he's a studied composer with a fair degree of versatility, and his work is well-orchestrated (and he's better than the Remote Control blokes).
But I've never bought any of his scores on CD.

Re: THE BATMAN - June 2021 - Zoe Kravitz Signs On For Catwoman
Often times I find his music has a serious disconnect with what I'm seeing. And they are generic -- there's little about his STAR TREK scores that separates them from his "Apes" scores or a Marvel score he may have written. They are "old school" only in that he uses he an orchestra, but beyond his technique and the fact he "knows his way around an orchestra," he can't write a theme that's appealing. I also don't think his music ever elevates what I'm seeing. He doesn't have Horner's dramatic sense, he doesn't have the ability to craft thematic material that's compelling, and he doesn't have a style like Elfman's that's distinguishable. His music is usually just "there".
There are a few scores of his I felt were OK, and sure, I guess I'd rather hear his music than Balfe, but I don't care to listen to anything he's written apart from the film.
Sadly, I feel that way about pretty much ALL film music these days though, to be fair...

Colin Farrell as The Penguin? Guess their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th choices must've turned them down.

Have to say Farrell and Paul Dano aren't exactly going to deliver a lot of wattage there on the star-front as the villains (Zoe is fine as Catwoman).
Andy Serkis as Alfred? meh.

First look at the Batman costume offers some Michael Giacchino score too...as evidenced by the piano.

Too dark - can't see a damn thing in that video other than occasional flourish of what looks like the "bat" symbol,AndyDursin wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 8:57 pm First look at the Batman costume offers some Michael Giacchino score too...as evidenced by the piano.

Giacchino seems to be a little pissy. Or a lot, actually.
Did you write that to him on Twitter, Ed?

I would never have used the word "Yall"
However, I can neither confirm nor deny that Giacchino's last response was NOT done in the voice of Michael Lonsdale as ALAN FIVEHOUSE.

Batman costumes always look like feces in surreptitious set photos. I'll reserve judgement until I see it properly lit.

Feel good family fun!
Re: THE BATMAN - June 2021 - Trailer
The preview looks better than I would have expected and I wasn't expecting much. I always liked Jeffrey Wright and the kid from the vampire movie seems to have grown up into a pretty big guy. I didn't recognize any of the other "stars" or characters.

Re: THE BATMAN - June 2021 - Trailer
New trailer....the "drearier than Nolan" tone is a total turnoff from me and I wouldn't think would be the first thing people want as an escape from the last 18 months but we'll see.
Re: THE BATMAN - March 2022 - New Trailer
Yeah, I lost all interest immediately. Where is the sense of style? I don't want another dreary dark city where everything is hard to see.
Give me Burton's Batman with the Gothic architecture....or even better, the animated series mix of 1990's tech and 1930s art deco! That would be cool. Do it up like Dick Tracy with everything painted in comic colors.
Plus, Pattinson with his mask on? Ok. Mask off? No thanks.

DARKER and EDGIER trailer -- but Catwoman has little charisma I can detect. Fanboys seem very excited!
