Kraven The Hunter (2024): 1.5/10
[^ This image is nowhere in the movie]
The .5 is due to the studio logos and entire "driving to a Russian gulag" opening sequence being scored to Basil Poledouris' opening theme from
The Hunt For Red October!

The rest is, somehow, even
worse than
Madame Web, with logy performances, routine action (from a talented filmmaker, J.C. Chandor, who, like Martin Campbell in
Green Lantern, clearly had no affinity for the pulp comic book material and left the movie up to his stunt team and second-unit guys to piece together), random weirdness (Aaron Taylor-Johnson biting a henchman's nose off and spitting it into the face of another[!], to say nothing of Alessandro Nivola's bizarre villain turn as "The Rhino"), lousy special effects and an overall sense of lethargy. It's not even good for laughs (at least consistently, like
Web), and, like lots of bad comic book movies, only gives us Johnson in his character's costume literally within the last 15 seconds, setting up a sequel that's obviously never going to happen. I feel bad for Ariana DeBose, winning an Oscar for
West Side Story and appearing in almost nothing but trash like this ever since. Good riddance to the dreadful Sony "Spidey villain spin-off" universe, we won't miss you.
