I don't think so. I remember feeling gypped that they had to end it with them marooned all over again and I guess that's why they quickly rushed the follow-up where they get rescued for real for good and turn the island into a resort.

But on general principle a 4K version of a 16mm element is the ultimate case of putting lipstick on a pig.

It's 16mm?

So they lost the original 35mm elements?

Not that I really care.

Lol so that's the one that ended that way? I remember seeing it when I was a kid and thinking how lame that was.

But now I vaguely remember the one where they built the resort and of course the Harlem Globetrotters with Martin Landau embarrassingly on hand after Space 1999 was canceled.

I think they're getting away with this because the film ended up in the public domain. There were a LOT of ripoff cheap DVD releases of it in apparently TV-sourced footage that I can remember. I wouldn't be surprised if they're using a private 16mm print for this.

There were three TV movies altogether. First this and then "Castaways On Gilligan's Island" which set up the "resort" premise and then the "Harlem Globetrotters" one.
