The Wild Robot truly is a special film, one of the best animated films in a long time. I went to it having heard of the good reviews and word-of-mouth, but I wasn't prepared for how good it was. I do agree that the action finale clashed with the tone of the rest, but in this day and age, it is an astonishing achievement with a beautiful story.

Animation fans have been eating good this year...The Wild Robot and Inside Out 2 being at the high end of "commercial" family 'toons, and Flow, Robot Dreams and Memoir Of A Snail being exceptionally good "arthouse" fare. Yeah, there was some middling, past-their-prime sequel junk (the forgettable fourth entries in the Kung Fu Panda and Despicable Me franchises), but having four animated movies in my personal "top ten" for the year thus far is impressive. :)
