Oscars 2025

Someone is trolling me. There's no way in HELL the ludicrously awful Emilia Perez is up for thirteen awards.

This is the worst, most embarrassing movie that's gotten major awards-season traction since Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and Don't Look Up.

This movie is obviously the one the Academy has latched onto hitting whatever social points they want plus it's made by the French so it has some sort of international pretensions about it.

Alas, this is all cinema in 2025 my friend. It's hilarious they expanded the field when the quality of releases has contracted accordingly.

This isn't just a case of the movie being "overrated" or anything...it's laughably bad. That clip is just the tip of the iceberg. And even trans people and Mexicans have complained about it being a stereotype-ridden movie with terrible messaging (Mexican ganglords who kill people are bad, until they turn themselves into women, and now they're good! ). Even an actress as vibrant as Zoe Saldana couldn't save it. I was just watching the movie with my jaw on the floor.

Emilia Perez, which looks like an utter trainwreck, has managed to tick almost everyone off outside of the Hollywood circle, and that even goes for audiences that one would think would like it: Many people of Mexican heritage hate it, gay people have rejected it, and it is trending for just how much everyone, regardless of background or political beliefs, hates it. If it wins BP, the Oscars will never recover from it. If they are bad shape now, just multiply that by 10. It's ridiculous.

I want to see the Latvian animated movie Flow, which got two nominations. It just showed up on VOD platforms.

One of the best films -- animated or otherwise -- I saw last year. Absolutely beautiful. Hell, the entire Best Animated Feature category this year is full of bangers.

And this is of course the reason why the movie will win.

I never heard of this movie until I saw your post.

Of course, I hadn't heard of (and frankly don't even recall) most Oscar-nominated films from the past 10 years.

Looks like Emilia Perez just imploded ....so we don't have to worry about it winning much if anything now.

I hope to hell it breaks the "most nominations without a single win" record that's been held (unfairly!) by The Color Purple for the last 39 years.

Given that the Hollywood Reporter just did a piece saying that academy voters now feel reluctant to vote for the film for anything, it seems extremely likely that Color Purple is finally going to be off the hook.

It would be a VERY bad look for anyone to vote for Emilia Perez now, so I hope you're right. :)

What are they going to vote for? This was their big chance to stick it to the right

That 4 hour movie with Adrien Brody nobody went to see is now the front runner? Lol
