Robert Eggers' LABRYINTH 2

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

"I've got it! Let's get the pretentiously arty director of claustrophobically filmed, mostly boring, nearly static horror movies to make a LABYRINTH sequel that nobody wants, and whose star is dead!"

I seriously thought this was a joke.

This will never happen, the same way that the Wolverine movie directed by Darren Aronofsky never happened in the early 2010s. Eggers doesn't need this. Nosferatu has made over triple its budget!

Is he going to spend his entire career making the same movie basically over.and over? I know some people think he's brilliant but I'm over his bag of tricks and it's entirely possible he wants to branch out from these confined horror movies of his. Especially since his next movie is yet another one!

That said this is indeed happening and the contracts have been signed. We all.know how it turned out for Shyamalan when he tried it, ran back and just turned out more of the same slop.

It's just sad that the "gold ring" promising indie filmmakers always grasp for is some IP sequel or remake. This is their reward? :? "You made the acclaimed Lady Bird and Little Women, now you get to make a Barbie movie!"

At least give Christopher Nolan credit for not looking back even once after completing his Batman trilogy, continuing to get massive event movie budgets for original projects.

It's how it goes when this is the model Hollywood has created for itself. There's nothing to cash in on when the prize is "giant corporate IP rehash" (congrats!).

I don't blame Eggers, undoubtedly wants to make something beyond the scope of his usual fare. It's just a bizarre project to begin with that doesn't in any possible way, shape or form gibe with his body of work.

Eggers' body of work thus far has been dour, morose -- and violent. Naturally he is the perfect choice to remake an upbeat muppet musical. :?

Will the movie use the same David Bowie songs? Will Eggers cast a modern rock star?

Will there be animatronic puppets (which was 90% of the original's charm)? I doubt it, when CGI is the cheaper and easier route.

I predict this film will be as well-remembered as the remakes of RoboCop, Conan The Barbarian and Ben-Hur.
