Going from him to the colorless Paul Mescal is as big a downgrade as going from Charlton Heston in the original Planet Of The Apes to Mark Wahlberg in Tim Burton's remake.
This is a bit of Scott's ego manifesting itself. This notion he's the real star and it doesn't need someone like Russell Crowe to carry it. Wrong!

Word of mouth must be kicking in too, for all the hype and promotion they've done for this sequel it's barely crossing $60 million according to the latest estimates. That's the lowest end of a $60-$80 mil projection window I saw. The Cinemascore is a terrible "B" also.

Anyway I'll be happy to not pay to watch another lame Scott retread after ALIEN COVENANT.

It's hard to think of a young-ish actor today who could have played the lead in Gladiator II and possessed even a modicum of Crowe's iconic gravitas. Nowadays it's all noodly twinks like Robert Pattinson and Timothee Chalamet.

This movie was terrible. Between this and Alien Covenant I'm actually thankful he didn't get the chance to trash Blade Runner while he was at it. (And yes I have some issues with 2049 but it's a better movie than Scott is frankly capable of making at this stage of his career)
