Its way too fast to play that card. 3 weeks? Ok. 3 days? Nope. They must be worried about the 2nd weekend drop.

Not to ask a dumb question, but I barely pay attention to the MCU anymore. So the new Avengers movie that the Russo brothers are shooting, is the cast supposed to be the characters from Thunderbolts? Or a different team? Is there going to be a New Avengers and an Old Avengers? Seems bizarre that they would pin their hopes for a franchise revival on a group of nobodies.

The hell of it is, Thunderb---, uhhhh, New Avengers has ZERO significant competition for the next two weeks. This upcoming weekend the big releases are Shadow Force, Juliet & Romeo and Fight Or Flight, and the weekend after that the biggie is another Final Destination. :| There's no blockbuster fare until the double feature of Mission: Impossible 8 and Lilo & Stitch on the 23rd, and yet we're still gonna see the usual 65% plunge for New Avengerbolts* next weekend (while Sinners only goes down another 15% at most).

I'm agog at people confident that Fantastic Four will make it to a billion, when the three Fox-era FF movies barely scraped they way to $800 million combined. The MCU's in a tailspin, and nothing's gonna being back the "glory days" of 2012-19 no matter how much Disney spends to "fix it!"

I don't disagree with you at all, though that $800 million is from 20 years ago -- that's well over $1 bil if you adjust for inflation. And it's basically just the first 2 Fox movies that generated all that (the third one was DOA). Those Jessica Alba movies were disliked by comic book fans but did pretty well regardless as family summer movie-type things...to some extent I'd have to figure Disney is going to retap into that audience here too or at least try to.

Still I think this FF will be lucky to do much north of $500-$600 mil worldwide. It's being released with loads of hype in the middle of the summer, so it's likely to do better than marvel's last couple of fizzles, but it, too, won't live up to expectations.

Neither will the X-Men, for the sheer reason that it's going to be the 3rd reset of those characters already. They're going to have to pay Ryan Reynolds a fortune for a Deadpool cameo or shell out something to one of the original cast and/or do a Multiverse tie-in to get that thing going.
