Yeah I don't get it. Even last night at 7:40 there was a grandfather with his grandson there (at least that's what it looked like)
I think, for most people our age or older, they see a character in a superhero costume, and they automatically think of the Super-Friends or the 60's
Batman TV series and believe that it will appropriate for their kids/grandkids to see, and never bother with doing 30 seconds' worth of investigation online to discover the film's rating/tone.

Hell, even PG-13 superhero efforts like
Man Of Steel and
The Dark Knight are chockablock with violence and devastation and are
punishingly overlong and joyless and would have left twelve-year-old me begging my Dad to take me home.
Deadpool is certainly funny and lighthearted, but it's not appropriate for the under-seventeen set in any way, shape or form. It's the same reasoning that makes parents think that they can take their kids to a crowded bar on a Saturday night for a "family meal", and then have the gall to complain that people around them are swearing.

I'm not saying Marvel is trying to get kids to see DEADPOOL right now, but they're probably grooming them to be future consumers of the movie. Case in point: My 9 year old son has been playing Lego Marvel Super-Heroes on the Wii U for a few months now and Deadpool sometimes appears, talking directly to the camera and making silly jokes, asking the kids to go on Deadpool missions to get special bricks to unlock certain characters in the game. As such, my son thinks Deadpool is funny and wants to see the movie.
Also, at Target today we were in the toy section and while I did not see any Deadpool toys, my son did point out a kids' Deadpool T-shirt.

I can definitely see that John. And what kid wouldn't want to see an R rated Marvel movie? I'd be begging my folks to go.
I will say, this movie was nowhere near as "adult" as KICK ASS. It wasn't sadistic. The violence was completely cartoonish and was heavier than your typical Marvel film, sure, but it wasn't even that excessive IMO. They cut away from certain things, they could have had more decapitations or whatever (can't believe I'm even typing this). The sexual content obviously makes it wholly unsuitable for kids, but frankly, I expected they were going to push the rating more than they did. Even the profanity wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be...probably because we've been so de-sensitized, little shocks me these days.

The movie is kicking butt despite the R rating and content that merits it.
I've been out of the scene for a while but when I used to run into Deadpool in the comics, he was very sarcastic, dry, and witty... but I don't remember him being all foul but I guess that's just par for the course today. Too bad.

This should be added to your official review. It'd make a great pull quote.
