The search for a “Bond 25” composer has ended with the perfect choice: Dan Romer, who provided offbeat, eclectic scores for director Cary Fukunaga’s trippy “Maniac” series and haunting “Beasts of No Nation” feature. IndieWire has learned that Romer will soon reunite with Fukunaga on “Bond 25,” currently shooting in London.

There had been speculation that the director might tap Oscar-winner Justin Hurwitz (forming a Team Damien Chazelle triumvirate with cinematographer Linus Sandgren and editor Tom Cross) or franchise vet David Arnold, who brilliantly scored Daniel Craig’s first two Bond outings, “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace.”

But after glimpsing last week’s tantalizing Jamaican sizzle reel with the spicy temp track, “Boom Shot Dis” by Kully B & Gussy G, it became clear that Romer could provide the right musical ingredient for “Bond 25” (which was nearly titled “A Reason to Die” ). That’s because Romer excels at finding the appropriate vibe with quirky, eclectic unpredictability. And that’s in sync with Fukunaga’s reel, which was luscious, dark, and frenetic. His message was clear: Bond in Jamaica is still hot, hot, hot!

While Bond has slipped into comfortable solitude, soaking up the Jamaican scenery, old CIA pal Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) comes calling, as does sultry MI6 agent Nomi (“Captain Marvel’s” Lashana Lynch). The respective encounters in the sizzle reel are a case of neon meets noir, which hints at a fresh visual palette for Craig’s last mission as Bond. It’s apparently about genetic engineering with Rami Malek as the latest baddie. Judging from composer Romer’s previous work, though, his eclecticism will come in handy.

In Netflix’s mind-bending “Maniac” (starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill), Romer utilized vibraphone, synth strings, and percussive beats for exotic sweetness and danger. In the war drama, “Beasts of No Nation,” he created something much more ethereal with synths. And, more recently, with “Ramy,” the Hulu series created by and starring comedian Ramy Youssef about a first-generation American Muslim living in New Jersey, Romer teamed with Mike Tuccillo to tap a percussive tension and synth sense of unease.

The challenge of scoring Bond, of course, has always been about bending but not breaking the rules established by John Barry. Arnold was successful in launching the Craig era, but it was more of a struggle for Thomas Newman on “Skyfall” and “Spectre.” He was out of his comfort zone when it came to action, and it showed on “Spectre” when he leaned heavily on his “Skyfall” themes. And it didn’t make it any easier with director Sam Mendes adding more touches from the Connery era.

But imagine Romer musically shaking up the Bond franchise. He could be as bold as Fukunaga allows, experimenting with strange sounds and haunting themes. And the fact that the film is set in Jamaica, Italy, Norway, and London should play to the composer’s versatility. Plus, there’s no reason why exotic flavor can’t punctuate the action scenes with location-specific instrumentation. As for the iconic Bond theme, Romer can make use of Arnold’s familiar version while offering his own unique twist.

Damn, I so wanted to hear the LALALAND guy's take on Bond!

This is sounding increasingly like a movie not designed for me. Lol

I don't know if this is good news or bad news, but...

Actress Grace Jones quits the upcoming James Bond movie minutes after reporting to set.

Jones, who played iconic villain May Day in 1985’s “A View to A Kill”, walked away from the James Bond movie after finding how few lines she had been given.

Studio bosses were frustrated after wasting time and money securing a residence for her to reportedly stay in near Pinewood Studios in London.

A source told Fox News: “Grace’s 007 homecoming was meant to be a real crowd-pleasing moment. Bosses were really excited about landing her. Of course, she comes with a reputation, so they organized premium accommodation and rolled out the red carpet on set to make her feel welcome. But it turns out Grace was expecting to play a bigger role in the movie and took her brief cameo as a slight. She was out of there quicker than it takes to rustle up a martini.”

This news comes after Bond actor Daniel Craig, injured his ankle last month forcing filming to be canceled.

It was bad enough she appeared ONCE in a Bond film. But given the whole metrosexual tone of Craig's 007, she would have been right at home in this one.

Just crazy that the Broccolis have spent a lifetime in control of a series they have overseen with a firm hand and yet where are they here? I haven't heard of a big franchise movie with this many issues in modern times. Not that I care about Grace Jones but what a mess. Walking off the set? Really does sound like they are making it up as they go!

Jones dominating a leathery, ancient Roger Moore in the sack was one of the most ghastly moments in the entire series.

"she's not the new Bond, but a new character who takes over his secret agent number after he leaves MI6"

It would be would be fine if they created a series of Bond spinoffs with this new female agent.

But they are going to cease making James Bond movies and start making these instead?

I advise anyone with stock in Eon Productions to sell now...

The franchise died with Brosnan as far as I'm concerned. If I need further proof in my own mind of how this whole series of movies has been fake-Bond this just cemented it.

This is why Boyle left I'm certain of it. He didn't want to kill Bond but seems like this movie has already done it. "Popcorn drenching moment" when a white man becomes a black woman? What is this 1968?

Sick of identity politics but seems Eon is done and has left Craig rampant to infuse this film with his personal agenda.

And what's also annoying is that anyone who criticizes this decision automatically gets branded sexist and racist. Broccoli and Eon know that critics and entertainment journalists can't afford to look "ignorant", so they are shielded from such criticism. However, they are not shielded from millions of Bond fans who will have no interest in seeing these movies.

The "sexist, racist" dog whistle meme of these modern day fascists has done more damage to our society than we can possibly imagine. Hell, I would have been open to a spinoff movie of Halle Berry's character back in the day because that was a NEW character independent of Bond.

The latest I've read, is that with Bond retired, her character is the "new 007" -- but not necessarily his replacement for future films.

I suspect her character will die at the end, prompting Bond to return to MI6 and resume his status as 007 for subsequent adventures.
