just saw after 20 years WHEN A STRANGER CALLS and my god, I didn't remember it being so scary. Amazing prologue. The middle section you can skip, but the showdown is fantastic again.
Also a wonderful score which reminds me of another score, but just don't know which one.. I guess something by Goldsmith.
Has the score ever been released? Fantastic! It's by Dana Kaproff... heard the name, but don't know anything about that composer.
The movie is currently been remade by Simon West (ugh)... I wonder how they seriously believe they can top this prologue?! Moreover as it was already redone with SCREAM...
hopefully it doesn't get a score by Steve Jablonsky...

Jill Schoelen rocked! where did she go? Too bad she was wasted in so many bad movies!
Anyhow... I made jokes about Steve Jablonsky scoring the remake and in fact it isn't funny... James Dooley is scoring it! Which is basically as if Jablo scores it!
Why can't they at least hire somebody who actually knows how to score a psycho thriller????

I agree about these movies, and I have a funny story to prove it.
Back when I was in high school, some guy friends and I were looking to rent a movie and a friend's girlfriend suggested WHEN A STRANGER CALLS BACK. We asked her what it was about and when she told us we said we didn't want to bother with Lifetime bullcrap. Typical macho guys. Eventually she got us to watch and spent the next 90 minutes laughing her ass off as these "macho" guys screamed, yelled at the TV, and generally wet their pants in terror. Good times!

well, some reviews of the remake already float in and they are not good (surprise!). basically the prologue of the original has been stretched into a 90 minutes movie. now, how ridiculous is that? does it show her evening in real time or what?
for 90 minutes she never checks the kids... lol
and it is said to suffer from the pg-13 thing again. Now, the original has no violence either, but still I'd say the tension is so high, that it is not for children. Apparently they kept the tension low to get the pg-13 rating. Yawn.
At least the showdown is supposed to be a bit scary, but to build a 90 minutes movie on a twist everybody knows... Hollywood is really in serious trouble!
