I've been reading a book on David Puttnam's brief, disastrous tenure at Columbia back in the late '80s and a few times it's mentioned him signing off on a live-action version of Gary Larson's classic comic panel-strip THE FAR SIDE. Alan Rudolph was to direct with John Larroquette starring -- here's a good article on it never getting made:
