I took advantage of 4k upgrades for Ten Commandments, Wizard of Oz and 2001 (I don't mind looking at the visuals even if I find the film totally overrated).

Wizard Of Oz looked tremendous. And then two-thirds of the way through it froze on me. I ejected, put it back in and jumped to where it happened and I got through to the end. Hopefully that was an aberration because honestly seeing the film in that format made me feel like I was on the set. I'll have to go through it a second time to be sure.

2001 is fascinating to see the visuals brought forth in such details. You can even read the small print on the beverage list on the moon shuttle! (They only serve "Pepsi Cola" among soft drinks). You can also see more clearly the inserts of controllers at different levels of the moon base when the shuttle comes in for a landing which would have been impossible to notice before. It's a reminder that if you like to gawk at set pieces, 2001 is fascinating.

But as a film and as a story, it is absolutely worthless and remains a giant exercise in directorial narcissism that too many critics have fawned over endlessly because they want to tell people who like basic storytelling they're a bunch of ignorant boobs who don't "get it".
