BLACK HOLE soundtrack to be released on iTunes...
Just heard tell that Dsiney is releasing John Barry's Black Hole soundtrack (same contents as LP -- no new music).
However, it will not be available on CD, only as a download-only from iTunes.
Persanally I'm thrilled. I don't care if its a download -- it will sound better than the boot (and downloads are cheaper than CDs anyway).
Here's the announcement by the guy who'se producing it...

Well, this doesn't do anything for me. If it were a commercially-available CD, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. But I'm not paying $9.99 (or whatever it is) for a download. I don't like the idea of them charging basically the same price as a budget CD when I have to pay all of the "manufacturing costs" (CD-R, any printing) myself.
Nothing against those who love their iTunes -- I just expect more for my money.

Wow, what a mixed bag of feelings -- great because the music hasn't been available for so long, but bad because $10 for a download is just lame.
While I think it's great they're making older titles available, I dislike the core notion of paying $10 for a download. Just like the HD movie downloads on Xbox Live marketplace, these are really not deals for the consumer -- just another way for the corporations/studios to try and exert more control over what you're purchasing.
Physical media will always be around somehow and even though I'm sure Itunes has improved the quality of their music encoding and such, it still cannot beat the actual, uncompressed pure sound of a CD.
I'd rather spend another $5 or even $10 for a genuine CD re-issue with packaging.

Its been a while since I downloaded anything from iTunes, but but last I tried, you could burn MP4s to CD with no problem.mkaroly wrote:I'm still upset at the fact that the CASINO ROYALE downloads are mp4 and I can't burn the extra tracks onto a CD since I don't know what I'm doing- can anyone shed some light on mp4 downloads and how to get those on CDs for someone who knows nothing about technology??
Just make a new iTunes playlist and drag the files into that playlist, place them into the order you want, and click the burn icon.
At least that's what I did, so unless Apple has removed this feaure (which I certainly hope the haven't -- if they have, its goodbye iTunes for me!) it sould work.
However, You cannot burned dounloaded video MP4s to a DVD. I've tried and it doesn't work. But as far as I know burning music MP4s to CD should work fine.

Anyway, I too would prefer to buy a physical CD with artwork, notes, etc. But my feeling is even a downloaded Black Hole recording is better (much better, really) than nothing.
Considering Disney has been so stubborn and immovable when it comes to releasiing any of their scores, this amounts to a minor miracle!
Who knows...maybe Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend and the actual soundtrack of The Black Cauldron will be on iTunes one of these days...

I'm going for it. Better than nothing.Paul MacLean wrote:I took the plunge and downloaded Black Hole the other day.
I must say I am pleased by the results. Its hard to say whether this or the LP "sounds better" (especially when both my LPs have a fair amount of surface "crackle"), but I have no complaints about the sound.
For $9.90 its not a bad deal.

I shouldn't have to go on Ebay for certain soundtracks and pay $300, either. Which is worse?AndyDursin wrote:I think this is a great deal -- for $5.
You're basically paying full price for an album but not getting the physical packaging!![]()
OK call me a traditionalist but I think they shouldn't be charging a full $10 just for a download.

This is good stuff, Andy. Doing this way (for now) eliminates the middle man and other things. (The fees and markups that go with all of these things.)
Wanna see another example of downloads really done right?
www.directsong.com <- Jeremy Soule. He's able to get his music out now in pristine form, including album covers, for no more than $10 a pop and the audio quality is at least CD quality and perfect everytime. How do I know? Because I have everything he's got.

Now what I need to know is: I downloaded these files through Itunes and what do I have to do to burn these onto a CD so I can listen to it on my CD player off the computer?
Do I need to convert these files or anything special?
Footnote: This Black Hole soundtrack absolutely needs to be resurrected by the likes of a Intrada, Varese, FSM, someone and given the super special edition lovin' all the way! No excuses!

Are you using Windows or Macintosh?Jack Bauer wrote:Now what I need to know is: I downloaded these files through Itunes and what do I have to do to burn these onto a CD so I can listen to it on my CD player off the computer?

I know on the Mac, there is a "Music" folder, within which is your "iTunes" folder, and within that your "iTunes Music" folder, which contains all your tracks.
I am not sure if it is called the same thing in Windows (or where it would be found). But within it are separate folders for each "Album" you've downloaded, and you will need to access these to burn a CD.
Anyway, open iTunes, and select "New Playlist" -- this is under the "File" menu at top of the screen on the Mac; presumably there is also one somewhere up there in the Windows version.
When you Select "New Playlist", it will appear in the lefthand column on your iTunes window. It will be titled "Untitled Playlist" (but you can retitle it whatever you want).
Click it and a blank field will appear. Find the folder(s) with the tracks you want to burn to CD, and drag them into the "New Playlist" field.
You will now be able to play them in iTunes, or burn them to CD. At the top of the window you will see different options for how you want to order your playlist. At the far left of these options is another option with no written description, just a small triangle. If you select this, you can freely re-arrange the tracks in any order.
Once you have the tracks you want, arranged the way you want, click the "Burn Disc" button near the lower right-hand corner (be sure to insert a CD first of course!

Hope thie helps!

There's a dedicated Itunes folder here as well in the Music area. I can see those files just fine.

Sweet! Ok, so basically if I downloaded something with Itunes, all I need to do is use Itunes as the interface to burn it on disc. Great!

Yeah...in fact iTunes existed before the iPod, and its original purpose was for downloading music and / or uploading your own CDs, and burning CD-Rs.Jack Bauer wrote:Sweet!
