I have to confess -- it wasn't hard to compile a list, and I admit not all the films on my list what I'd call truly "great".
I'd have a much-harder time compiling a Top Ten list of 1980s movies (and that would consist entirely of films I do consider truly great).

Re: CONGO - The 30th Anniversary Revisit
Goldsmith's score is solid...by his 90s standards at least (and it's better than First Knight).
Still, whenever I hear that song he wrote with Lebo M, I keep expecting to hear a woman with a Jamaican accent saying "Dial 1-800-SANDALS".

Re: James Bond 007 Reset Thread: Denis Villeneuve Signs On
While I really liked Skyfall , Bond films are not the place for "auteur" directors. The draw of a Bond film should be Bond , and maybe the actor playing him, not an auteur with a distinctive style. Bond movies are best served by journeyman directors, not auteurs who insist on "adaptin...

Re: BFI Screening Of Rare 1977 Star Wars Film Print
This insane Hollywood Reporter article posits that the original version of Star Wars "looks terrible" and the that special editions were actually an improvement. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/star-wars-1977-screening-version-review-1236291808/ ‘Star Wars’ “Looks Terri...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
It's not just the fact that Connery is clearly bored with the role, it's the fact that the script and story is leaden and I suspect part of that is due to the fact that this is the first Bond movie in which Richard Maibaum didn't play any role. I agree. Connery is definitely less-engaged and it aff...

Re: G20 - DIE HARD Rip-Off with Viola Davis as Kamala Harris
I only just saw your post today (I've been so tied-up for the past six months I haven't had as much time peruse the board). Did anyone actually watch this? And check out the Youtube viewer comments... "This trailer makes me want to sit on my computer and look at my office chair." "I a...

Not one of Andy's uploads, but here's a very early show where they review a film from a young, up-and-coming director -- Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver...

Re: KRULL on 4K UHD & Remastered Blu-Ray - September 16
Say what will you about the story and characters -- but Krull is still a great-looking movie, which will benefit enormously from 4K presentation.

Re: rate the last movie you saw
I also think Barry's repetitive, ponderous music in some of those underwater scenes doesn't help. Title song has never been a favorite of mine either. BUT I still like it, and I certainly appreciate Paul's POV and anyone who looks at it as a favorite. Really the first 4 Bonds are all different kind...

I just don't like seeing her in the role of "wholesome characters". I'd be fine with her playing a wicked witch or hooker! Appearing in BOYS ON THE SIDE is not, I repeat, NOT as bad as statutory rape  I certainly wasn't trying to draw that parallel! I'm just sayin...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
Well we were talking earlier about people we feel a need to boycott because of their off-camera actions re: Barrymore, Simpson, Fonda etc. and Polanski for me is at the top of the list because of his cowardly refusal to be a man and acknowledge responsibility for his actions, plus the fact that for...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
Chinatown (1974) 7 of 10 -I'd never seen the film before. It's well-made, well-acted and holds my attention for the most part but when it takes a detour into the distasteful category (incest) and the downer ending that was a downer simply because that's what Polanski wanted (until now the only film...
