I haven't liked Elfman's past few super hero scores but next to John Williams, he is clearly the best film composer working today. And as for the Family Guy joke... which other composer were they supposed to use? Sorry, but aside from maybe Hans Zimmer or MAYBE James Horner, the average Family Guy f...

This really is good news... though I did hear Craig Armstrong is doing the score.

I'll forgive the title if the movie is good! I have high hopes after AI, Minority Report, War of the Worlds and Munich.

This score is BAD! I'm not the biggest fan of what Doyle did on the last one but even that had its moments. I actually had trouble finishing this album and when I did I was like "That's IT?!" I hope it doesn't destroy the movie.

The tone in Star Trek IV is so goofy that it doesn't feel like a fitting end to that particular trilogy. I still like the movie though. can you imagine what it would have been like if they'd actually cast Eddie Murphy in the Catherine Hicks role?

>>Watchable, not awful, but a disappointment just the same.<<

This is how I felt about Spiderman 3. I think I'll skip Pirates.

Re: SPIDER-MAN 3: First Reviews Are In, And They're Mixed

I've been watching the scenes from Spiderman 2 on youtube, with the rejected Elfman music. That's some pretty great stuff they threw out! I wonder if the music will be as big a mess in the new one.

JP 2 is hideous! 3 is a decent B-movie that's missing an ending like Andy said. I hope this time they don't stick a kid in it!

>>Given the state of film music, what might've appeared juvenile 10 years ago is masterful by today's standards.<<

Not to me it isn't! A score that was juvenile and inappropriate ten years ago doesn't seem anymore masterful to me today just because John Ottman sucks.

Randy Edelman is like Bernard Herrmann!!

Edelman writes good tunes but his stuff has always struck me as overblown and juvenile with the picture. It works well on albums and trailers but it's supposed to be film music!
